    Prospective Students

All accepted/admitted students begin the program during the Fall semester, and be admitted to Eastern Michigan University. The College Supports Program does not admit individuals mid academic year.

Families are encouraged to begin the admission process as early as possible. To be considered for Fall enrollment, the student and family are highly encouraged to submit all completed application materials by January 15, 2024.

    Family Interviews

When all application materials are received, the applicant’s file is reviewed by members of the Admissions Committee. If the student is a possible candidate, the family will be invited to campus for a formal interview. The interview allows the student to express their interests and to ask questions. Parents discuss relevant applicant information and gain a better understanding of the College Supports Program

    Decisions and Admissions Procedure

Decisions about admission to the program follow a review of all information by members of the Admissions Committee. An evaluation of an applicant’s strengths, areas needing further development, motivation, receptiveness to support, an understanding of their own autism, and fit to what the program can offer, rather than a diagnosis or test scores, determines if an applicant will be admitted. Once admission decisions have been made, families will be notified by letter. Due to the limited space in the program and number of applicants, some eligible students may not be admitted.

Applicants must have taken a tour of the program and university as well as submitted all application materials prior to a review by the Admissions Committee.

In accordance with EMU's COVID policies, the College Supports Program offers visits both virtually and/or in person.

Is the Program Appropriate for You?

How do you know if you are appropriate for the program? You will need to have the following:

    • Documented diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorders
    • Admitted to EMU based on student’s own merit.
    • As a part of our enhanced support program, students are required to register with the Disability Resource Center (DRC) for standard services and accommodations, including single room housing requests.
    • Our program works in close collaboration with the DRC across all aspects of the college experience.
