Kay learned German while living in Germany for seven years and traveling in Europe. While studying for her master's in TESOL, she received the Buckheister Award from the Department of World Languages at EMU in 2010; Michigan Marckwardt Travel Grant by MITESOL also in 2010; and the TESOL Professional Development Award in 2009.
It is Kay's goal to provide an environment with the freedom to experiment and opportunities create meaning within different cultural contexts. She also seeks to support the development of learners’ academic and professional competence. She says "For me, teaching English language learners is an adventure and a privilege. It requires me to explore and discover new ideas as I guide and support the language learner’s journey."
