Our Mission
The Commission on Women, reporting to the President, is charged with inquiring into the status of women in order to ensure fair and equitable treatment for all women at Eastern Michigan University. It shall give continuing advice to an all-institutional program for a diverse population, and shall administer periodic reviews of the implementation of institutional programs and policies. The Commission is also responsible for monitoring Title IX activities on the campus.
The Commission has been in existence by the appointment of the President since 1972. Its membership is a cross-cutting group of representatives of administrative staff, faculty, undergraduate and graduate students, the Children’s Institute, Intercollegiate Athletics, Women’s and Gender Studies Department, Women’s Resource Center, the Sisterhood, EMU MI-ACE, Women in Philanthropy, Health and Safety, and Diversity and Affirmative Action.
