Academic Collaborating
 
The Children's Institute collaborates with the following academic departments to provide workshops, presentations, student placement and field trips for families and children as well as research opportunities from a variety of disciplines. 
 
The Children's Institute collaborates with many academic departments to provide opportunities for students to engage in hands-on learning experiences.  This allows them to take the classroom content and immediately and directly apply it at the Children's Institute.
 
These departments include:
  • Children's Drama Theater
  • Children's Literature
  • Music & Dance:  Music Education-The Children's Institute collaborates to provide a music experience.
  • Music & Dance:  Creative Movement
  • Psychology Clinic-an on-site psychological offers services to children and families at the Children's Institute through a satellite clinic.
  • Physician Assistant Program-according to former faulty member Dr. Vivian Moynihan "active learning in pediatrics is a challenge for P.A. programs.  The Children's Institute offers the EMU P.A. students a robust opportunity for application of pediatric mile stones, with the additional opportunity to expand pediatric history-taking skills.
  • EMU Occupation Therapy-The EMU Occupational Therapy (OT) Programs has collaborated with the EMU Children's Institute for many years   Fieldwork at the Children's Institute is not only a convenient location for students to bring their curriculum to life, but also allows students to benefit the local community by supporting the health and well-being to EMU's next generation. 
 
Practicum Placement
 
The Children's Institute provides supervised lab practicum placement required by Teacher Education for NCATE Accreditation Standards for Early Childhood Education Students.
  • We place up to 120 students each fall and winter semesters.
  • Each student is placed for 3 hours each week for 14 weeks.
 
Community Collaboratives
 
The Children's Institute has on relations with the following community organizations and agencies.
 
  • The Bookmobile-A fun way to bring literacy and story time to the Children's Institute.
  • The Washtenaw County Foster Grand Parent Program-connects the generations and provides extra support for children that are in need.
 
Campus Collaborations
 
The Children's Institute collaborates with the following departments to provide support, workshops, presentations, and field trips for families and children.
 
These include the following:

  • Swoop Pantry
  • Chartwell's Dining Service
  • and Athletics
