Great Start Readiness Program

Children who attend a high quality program in the year or two before kindergarten are better prepared for school academically, socially, and emotionally. The Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) is Michigan's state-funded preschool program for four-year-old children with factors which may place them at risk of an educational disadvantage. The program is administered by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) at no cost to families that qualify financially.

We have one GSRP classroom that can have up to 18 children. If eligible, the GSRP will allow your child to come Monday through Friday 8:30-4:00. We also offer wrap around care from 7:30-8:30 and 4:00-5:30 for a cost.

In order to be eligible for this program, your child must be 4 years old by December 1 with a birthday between 9/2/2019 and 9/1/2020, have a household income that is from 0-250% of the Federal Poverty Level, and live within the Washtenaw Intermediate School District boundaries.

The interest form is the first step in the process to apply for free preschool. It helps the Washtenaw WISD connect you with the program that you feel is best for your family. After completing the interest form, you will still need to complete a full application along with providing your income information. When applying for a spot at the Children's Institute, please mark your first Program Preference as the Ypsilanti-EMU Children's Institute.
