    The US Fish and Wildlife Service is hiring invasive species technicians to work out of three locations in Alaska (Fairbanks, Anchorage, and Soldotna). Alaska has relatively fewer invasive species than the lower 48 and they are working to keep it that way through prevention, early detection, and rapid response to incipient invasions.     The USGS National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program (NCGMP) is currently soliciting resumes for current students or recent graduates with a background in Geoscience and/or GIS to serve in a contractor role. Expected job duties are as follows: 

    • Develop a database and “Status Map” of historic STATEMAP-Program performed geologic mapping. Develop procedures for updating the database and Status Map via automation or a workflow. Requires knowledge of GIS (e.g., ESRI suite, Google Earth Engine), automation techniques (e.g., python, JAVA) and ability to synthesize geologic data,
    • Build and populate a deliverable tracking database, focusing on external NCGMP-funded Programs, such as STATEMAP and EDMAP. Requires knowledge of database management, specifically those compatible with Microsoft Office Products or a database management software (such as PostgreSQL),
    • Synthesize and comprehend previously received and funded proposals to populate developed databases,
    • Validate and upload previously delivered .gdb files for the USGS’s GeMS Standard (Geologic Map Schema) as received from previous cooperative agreements. 

    The contract will last a period of 12 months with the possibility to extend. Training can be offered to develop required skillsets, particularly knowledge/expertise in the GeMS Database Standard. Position location is negotiable; however, if remote, excellent communication and organizational skills would be required. This position would also provide the opportunity to work on projects, other than those listed, across the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program, to network with USGS scientists, and to further your career.
