Ypsilanti
One of the major benefits of living on Eastern Michigan University’s campus is our great location. The campus sits nestled in the City Of Ypsilanti, referred to as “Ypsi” (pronounced “Ip see”) by the EMU community. Ypsilanti is a progressive city with a great community vibe and arts scene. The city has two growing shopping, dining and entertainment areas, known as depot town and downtown, within five minutes of campus. It's well worth the visit.
Ann Arbor
If you are looking for a city feel, grab a bus from one of the several campus stops of the The Ride (Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority) and take a bus to downtown Ann Arbor and visit many award winning restaurants, wonderful museums and some of Michigan’s best shopping.
Detroit
For a fantastic day trip, EMU's campus is less than an hour away from several Major Detroit attractions:
- 45 minutes: Detroit Institute of Arts
- 50 minutes: Detroit Zoo
- 35 minutes: Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village
- 40 minutes: Detroit Redwings Hockey, Tigers Baseball and Lions Football
The Great Outdoors
For a fun walk or leisurely outdoor activities check out one of the many Ypsilanti or Ann Arbor City Parks.
When you need a break from the City, Pinckney State Recreation Area is a 30 minute drive away with many trails, camping and recreational swimming. This 11,000 acre state park is sure to be a retreat, including a 35-mile (56 km) Waterloo-Pinckney Hiking Trail which runs through the two parks (passing through Park Lyndon County Park between them).
