Giving to SAC
Over the past decades, funding for higher education from the state has declined. SAC, as all other units in the university, tries to offset this by asking for your generous support of our efforts in providing a great and affordable educational experience. We very much appreciate support for the department and for our department's scholarships. All funds we receive are administrated through the EMU Foundation and are used exclusively to support the work of SAC, its faculty and students. These are the five SAC funds in the Foundation:
The Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Criminology Development Fund
By contributing to this fund, you support us in continuing to provide a solid foundation for all kinds of development activities in the department, which it can be difficult or impossible to pay through our ordinary budget (for instance purchasing teaching tools for our classes and labs or supporting our students' participation in conferences). The Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Criminology Endowed Scholarship
By contributing to this fund, you support us in every year giving a number of our best and deserving undergraduate sociology, anthropology or criminology students a small scholarship. The students are selected by the department's faculty. This helps students economically and, of course, encourages them to continue to perform with excellence in our classes. The Patrick C. Easto Endowed Scholarship (Sociology)
This scholarship is endowed in the memory of past department member and department head Patrick C Easto. This fund every year provides a substantial scholarship to a sociology major who has been honorably discharged from service in the US armed forces. The student is selected by the program faculty in cooperation with the university's Military and Veterans Resource Center. The Marilyn Horace-Moore Scholarship (Criminology)
This scholarship is created in the name of Marilyn Horace-Moore, who was a vital member of the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminology, at Eastern Michigan University. This fund every year provides a scholarship to a Criminology major selected by the program faculty. The first scholarship will be awarded in Winter 2021 for Fall 2021. The Marilyn of Monroe Endowed Scholarship in Criminology (Criminology)
This scholarship is endowed in the name of Marilyn Appner-Falor, a longtime supporter of the department and its criminology program. The Greg O'Dell Endowed Criminal Justice Student Scholarship (Criminology)
This scholarship is endowed in memory of the late EMU Police Chief Greg O'Dell who cared a lot both about education and the department's students. This fund every year provides a substantial scholarship to an excellent Criminology major. Students must apply for the scholarship and the recipient is selected by the program faculty in cooperation with the university committee working with this scholarship.
