Eastern Michigan University is committed to providing a safe learning and living environment for all students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Safety and Security Services

Security cameras - More than 1,000 security cameras blanket the campus, with a high-tech command center that operates 24 hours a day.

Email alerts - All current students, faculty, and staff are automatically enrolled for emergency email notifications.

Emergency text alerts - EMU encourages all students, faculty, and staff to enroll in the emergency text alert system so that emergency messages can be received on mobile devices.

Anonymous Tip Line - Report information about a crime to 1.800.SPEAK.UP (or 1.800.773.2587) or visit the Crime Stoppers of Michigan website. EMU also has a tip line at 734.487.4847.

Sexual Assault Reporting - Individuals can report sexual misconduct or interpersonal violence by contacting the Title IX Office at 734.487.3617 or submitting information online.

Local jurisdiction - EMU is part of the Eastern Washtenaw Safety Alliance, along with the Washtenaw County Sheriff and the City of Ypsilanti. All EMU and Ypsilanti police officers have county-wide powers of arrest.

SEEUS (Student Eyes and Ears for University Safety) - SEEUS provides escorts to persons walking alone to on-campus destinations such as classrooms, buildings, residence halls, and parked cars.

Minors on Campus

It is the policy of Eastern Michigan University that all existing and future University programs and activities involving minors must be developed and administered to provide a safe and protective environment for participating minors.
