EMU was the first Michigan university to become a member of the Age-Friendly University (AFU) Global Network and is committed to creating an age inclusive learning environment, especially for returning students and those with families and full-time commitments outside of school.

As an AFU designated university, we strive to:

  • actively work across campus to engage students in intergenerational experiences to actively challenge perceptions of aging and older adults.
  • educate the campus community about the value of non-traditional students and work to enhance their educational experiences.
  • generate interest in aging and life-span research.
