In a secluded Italian villa by the coast, fifty brides desperately seek sanctuary as they flee their fifty grooms in an attempt to escape arranged marriages. Unfortunately for the would-be-brides, the determined grooms catch up with them and ambush the villa by helicopter, causing an all-out riot. This modern re-telling of the ancient Greek play The Danaids by Aeschylus, explores themes of patriarchal control, romantic love, and the question of personal freedom. Charles Mee’s inspired interpretation uses music, movement, violence and comic relief to dive into the good, bad, and ugly of gender roles & relationships. Big Love is a wild ride filled with intense passion, humor, cake, and the occasional dead groomsmen.
