Commencement Regalia

 

All graduates who plan to participate in the commencement ceremony must wear EMU approved regalia (cap and gown).

Graduates who earn master's degrees or doctoral degrees will wear a hood in addition to a cap and gown. Learn how to wear your academic hood [PDF].

Where to Buy or Rent Regalia

Undergraduate and graduate regalia is available for purchase in-person  from the EMU Bookstore in the Student Center until April 25, 2025. Regalia may be purchased online at Oak Hall  until March 27 for shipment to a residence.

Doctoral regalia may be purchased online at Oak Hall  until February 5 for shipment to a residence or rented online at Oak Hall  until February 28 for shipment to the EMU Bookstore. Rental doctoral regalia will be available for pickup at the bookstore beginning on April 21.

Undergraduate Honors Tassels

Undergraduate honors tassels for graduates will be available at Service EMU during regular business hours on April 14-25, 2025. Students may also pick up their tassels in the robing room on the day of the ceremony.  Other honors cords and stoles are given out by honor societies, not by the University, Service EMU, or the EMU Bookstore.   

REMINDER: Students must have a current cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.5 or higher to be eligible for a gold tassel.

Name Reader Cards

When you pick up regalia from the EMU Bookstore, you will be given a name reader card.  If you order your regalia online, you may pick up a name reader card when you arrive at Commencement. Please fill out both sides of the card clearly and in good handwriting.  When you approach the stage as directed by the faculty marshals, you will hand your card to the name reader.

Donate Used Regalia

After the ceremonies, graduates may donate gently used regalia for use by future Eagles. Gently used regalia may be mailed to Swoop's Food Pantry at 104 Pierce Hall, Ypsilanti, MI 48197.
