Housing Move-In

Fall Move-In

Housing & Residence Life is excited to welcome you to campus this fall!

The following are EMU COVID mandates for those living on campus for our collective safety.

Please read through the following, as your ability to move-in this fall depends on you completing the following items:

  • Mandated COVID testing before move-in

    Expand dropdown

You are required to complete a one-time COVID test 3-5 days prior to your move-in date regardless of your vaccination status.

    • Results from at-home tests are not acceptable. You must provide results from an antigen test, which is free in many locations. You must use a medical provider or retail provider that will provide you with written or email results as you will need to submit these results.
    • On-campus testing will be available in the days prior to opening for students who live locally. Testing center information including hours can be found at https://www.emich.edu/emusafe/testing/index.php

Where can I get a test?

In Michigan, you can find a testing site: https://www.solvhealth.com/search?cobrandedSrpLocation=MI

If you live outside of Michigan, contact your local health department for testing locations or find sites here: https://www.hhs.gov/coronavirus/community-based-testing-sites/index.html

  • Upload test results and provide COVID vaccination status

    Expand dropdown

You must submit your test results electronically to EMU.  These results will be verified by the EMU Telehealth Clinic. You may be called if there are questions regarding your results. Once your test results are verified, you will receive an email notification that you will need to show at move-in. You can submit your test results here: https://covid.emich.edu/vaxcert

All residential students must update EMU on their COVID vaccination status. This is part of the test submission form.

    • Although you have not moved in, please select the on-campus option and select the appropriate hall or complex. This certification includes a section to note unvaccinated status.
    • Students who are fully vaccinated are not subject to monthly testing (2 times per month using an on-campus testing site) to maintain their on-campus housing.
  • At your scheduled move-in date & time

    Expand dropdown

Prior to checking in, you will be asked to show two verifications:

    • EMU COVID PASS DAILY HEALTH SCREENING indicating you are cleared for campus. You should fill this form out right before arriving to campus on your scheduled move-in day.
    • COMPLETED TESTING VERIFICATION which will be provided to you in email by the EMU Telehealth Clinic

For more campus information and links to the COVID PASS HEALTH SCREENING or to report a positive case of COVID: https://www.emich.edu/emu-safe/safe-return-to-campus/students/index.php

  • Get fully vaccinated before September 30

    Expand dropdown

All students who live on campus during fall semester are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

The deadline for students to receive their final vaccination shot and verify their vaccination status through the University’s COVID Vax Certification system is Thursday, September 30, 2021. A person has received a final vaccination shot after receiving a second shot of a two-shot vaccination series (e.g., Pfizer or Moderna) or a single shot of a one-shot vaccination series (e.g., Johnson & Johnson vaccine).

Students who live in on-campus housing have time to comply with this policy and, in doing so, help keep themselves and their fellow EMU Eagles safe. For example, a student who receives the first shot of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine on September 2, 2021 (the fourth day of the fall semester) would receive their final shot on or about September 23, 2021 -- before the University’s deadline for on-campus housing residents to receive their final shot.

There are many opportunities available to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, including pop-up clinics that the University plans to schedule for late-August and early-September. You may learn more here about where to obtain a free COVID-19 vaccine.

For further information, please visit the Vaccination Requirements for Student Housing Residents site.

How do I know when to move in?

Students will move in for Fall 2021 using a staggered process, based on their classification (first-year student or upper-class student), what building they live in, and what floor they live on.

You need to know where you are living this fall in order to determine when you are scheduled to move in. Students can find this information by logging into their 21/22 housing application and looking at the Assignment Information page

Students are expected to arrive on their assigned day during the assigned time frame. If a student cannot arrive during their time frame on their assigned day, we have a designated period at the end of each day for students who missed their arrival time.

Please be advised that if a student arrives outside of their posted time frame, Housing may ask the student to leave and return to move in during their assigned day and time.

Students may have up to 2 guests to help them move in. Move-in guests will need to complete the EMU COVID Daily Screening Pass, guests do not need to be COVID tested prior to move-in, and guests will need to follow mask wearing and physical distancing guidelines.

These schedules are subject to change if the University issues further guidance or makes changes to the  campus reopening process.

To learn more about your specific move-in process, please select the section that best describes your situation:
