Fall Move-In

Move-In Dates: Thursday, September 17 , 2020 through Saturday, September 19, 2020.

There are a few items you MUST complete in order to move-in:

  • Complete COVID test

    As part of our #EMUSAFE Plan, students living on campus are required to complete a COVID-19 test by 9/13/20, prior to arriving on campus. For many of you, this will be a SECOND TEST.

    Eastern Michigan University has partnered with Vault Health to provide you with an at-home saliva-based COVID-19 test to complete in advance of your return to campus. There will be no charge to you for this test.

    Students with a completed and negative test on record via Vault Health will be allowed to check in at their scheduled check-in time and date. Students with a positive test, denoting they have COVID-19, or students that do not complete their test will not be allowed to check-in and must follow #EMUSAFE protocols. This may include staying at home or in your current residence.

    Students will be emailed at their @emich.edu email accounts with a personalized link for testing.

    By now you would have received an email from EMU regarding COVID testing. Follow the directions so your test is completed in time for move-in. You must have a negative result with Vault Health in order to move-in. If you did not receive this email, please email [email protected]

  • Schedule Move-In Appointment

    Beginning September 9, 2020, log into your 2020-2021 housing application and complete the Guide to Campus Living and COVID policies acknowledgment pages. Once you have signed-off on the above documents, you will have the ability to schedule your move-in appointment. Please be advised that you cannot sign up for a move-in time or move-in until you are registered for classes.

     

    The appointments section of the housing application will open at 10am on Wednesday, September 9, and close on Wednesday, September 16, at 5pm. You must schedule your move-in appointment prior to this deadline.

After completing the required application pages and scheduling your appointment, you will receive an email. Your "SEPT Move-In Appointment Booked" email serves as your check-in ticket that will allow you to move-in. This email is automatically sent to your active email address on-file after you have successfully booked your move-in appointment.

You must have a printed copy of this email or be able to pull-up this email on your electronic device in order to move-in. If you do not, you will not be able to move-in. As a reminder, you must also have a negative COVID test result with the company EMU partnered with in order to move-in. Please arrive as close to your selected time slot as possible. If you are unable to arrive during your selected time slot you will be unable to move-in until 4–6 p.m. on your schedule move-in day.

If you cannot schedule an appointment to move-in from Thursday, September 17, 2020 through, Saturday, September 19, 2020, you may move-in on Sunday, September 20, from 10 a.m.–3 p.m.

For those who plan to arrive on Sunday, September 20, you must log into the housing application and indicate this to be sent your check-in ticket via email.

There are some students who are authorized for move-in prior to September 17. These move-ins are approved through Housing and Residence Life.  Please check your EMU email for more information regarding move-in.

  • What date do I check in?

    Move-in is scheduled for Thursday, September 17—Sunday, September 20. Starting on Wednesday, September 9 at 10 a.m. you will be able to select your specific date and time to get your key and move-in your belongings. Please schedule your move-in before Wednesday, September 16 at 11:55 p.m.
  • Where do I check in?

    Most people will check in at their assigned hall or apartment complex. Check out a campus map to scout out your best points of entry to campus:

    • Phelps/Sellers: In your building lobby/main lounge
    • Walton/Putnam: In your building lobby/main lounge
    • Best: In your building lobby/main lounge
    • Wise: In your building lobby/main lounge
    • Buell: In your building lobby/main lounge
    • Pittman or Hoyt: In your building lobby/main lounge
    • Village: Inside the community building (only 1 story building in the complex)
    • Cornell Courts: Outside apartment: Building C, Apartment 100
    • Westview: Outside apartment I-54
    • Brown/Munson/West Forest Properties: Apartment Office in Brown Hall
  • How will the actual check-in process work?

    • In your assignment email, you will receive directions to affirm your review and understanding of the Guide to Campus Living, COVID-19 Student Responsibilities and any other pertinent information.
    • You must go online to electronically affirm this. Once you complete this step, you will receive a bar code in your email.
    • You will need to bring the bar code (printed or on an electronic device like your phone) to the check-in location.
    • Prior to your arrival to campus, you will need to complete the EMU screening process. This process will be completed on a smart phone or computer.
    • Once you arrive, at the entry, your time slot will be confirmed, asked COVID-19 screening questions or provide affirmative screening information, and provided any other expectations for the day. Students may then proceed to the line for picking up their key.  Family members, helpers, and guests will be asked to wait outside of the building for the return of the student.
    • If there is a line, students will be expected to follow posted arrows and guidance markers for physical distancing and moving forward.
    • Students will present their bar code, which allows us to check you into our databases without your signature or additional contact. We will hand you your key in an envelope.
    • You will then exit the check-in area following the flow of traffic signs or arrows provided. Find your family members or helpers and start moving your belongings.
  • Can I bring people to help me move my belongings?

    Yes, but each student moving in will be limited to two additional people to enter the building. This is to maintain lower density in the hallways and lobby areas. Once you have completed moving in, you are encouraged to enjoy the outdoor space on campus or other areas so that the next group of students can move in. No under 18 guests will be allowed at opening. We will not offer Move-In Magic Helpers this year.

  • Will there be carts?

    Yes, there will be limited carts available. There will be wipes available for cleaning the carts.

  • What should I bring?

  • How do activate my EagleOne Card?

    Access into your residence hall requires a campus ID.  If you have not already submitted your online photo and requested your EagleOne Card, please do so as soon as you can. Find instructions on how to submit your photo.

    If you have already done this and received your EagleOne Card, please activate it before you come to campus so that you can enter your residence hall. Activate your card.

  • Are there new expectations regarding COVID-19?

    Yes, more details are provided in the Guide to Campus Living but here are the changes that you should be aware of as you move in:

    • Face Coverings: Everyone will be required to wear face coverings over their mouth and nose while inside buildings. When in your student room/apartment or outdoors, you can remove.
    • Physical Distancing: During move-in and throughout the year, you will be expected to maintain a 6 ft. distance between you and others whenever possible.
    • Housing & Residence Life Staff and Physical Plant Staff: We will keep our distance and have masks on (unless we are medically unable). At times, such as giving you a key or during a lock out/emergency, we may need to be within 6 ft. We will try our best to be respectful of space and still get the job done. We expect the same from you (students, parents, and guests).
    • Common space and elevator occupancy: There will be posted occupancy limits in all common spaces. You are expected to self-monitor these limits.
    • Guests: You will be allowed two guests to assist at move-in. After move-in, only EMU guests will be allowed. There will be a one-person per student limit. The University defines an EMU guest as a current EMU student, staff, or faculty member.
    • We are planning for a staggered move-in that will allow for physical distancing. We will check-in 10-15 people per hour in each building.  This means that you will be assigned a specific day and hour to check-in and you will be expected to adhere to that time.  There will be an option if you cannot arrive during your appointment time but it will be later in the move-in weekend.
    • When you check-in and daily, you will be expected to answer COVID screening questions regarding your health.
    • Dining will open sometime during move-in weekend. However, all meals served on campus including those in the dining hall will be take-out.
    • The university will follow all guidelines set by the CDC and the state of Michigan which includes the use of face covering, gatherings, and another other protocols put in place. Students who do not follow these guidelines may be asked to leave the residence halls and apartments. Visit the EMU COVID-19 website
  • What if I test positive or have to quarantine?

    At move-in, Housing and Residence Life (HRL) will only receive information regarding who is authorized to move in based on their submitted COVID test on file with Vault Health. If you receive a positive test, you should not attempt to check-in and instead isolate at home for the recommended time.

    During the semester, if you test positive or are required to quarantine as a precautionary measure, you will need to leave campus and find alternative housing. There will be a limited number of spaces for students who cannot find alternative housing. These spaces are in the residences halls and may be in your building—although they are not on floors where students are living.
