Professor Wood's work has appeared in many refereed outlets, including; Justice Quarterly, Criminology, Journal of Research in Crime and Delinquency, Punishment and Society, Sociological Inquiry, Deviant Behavior, The Prison Journal, Journal of Criminal Justice, Crime and Delinquency, Journal of Offender Rehabilitation, Social Science Quarterly and others. Recently, Wood and his colleague David May published Ranking Correctional Punishments: Views From Offenders, Practitioners, and the Public. Wood has gathered data from offenders in several states to better understand criminal decision-making processes, and is currently working with colleagues on projects investigating race differences in criminal victimization, the association between mental illness and return to incarceration, the use of military enlistment in lieu of imprisonment and the role of emotions in the reinforcement of habitual criminal conduct. He is married to Dr. Anne L. Balazs (also at EMU), and they have three children, Margaret (14), Andrew (10) and Sophie (10). Professor Wood enjoys golf, travel, skiing, food and drink (in moderation of course) and having spent almost 20 years in the SEC at Vandy and Mississippi State, he is trying to develop some appreciation for Michigan football. In addition, he has found that Michigan winters last a bit too long.
