Part-Time Lecturer
Sociology, Anthropology and Criminology; Women's and Gender Studies
Ms. DeWard has taught in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Criminology at EMU since 2013. She particularly enjoys teaching introductory sociology, since it provides the opportunity to engage students—particularly non-majors—in the process of a sociological inquiry. Prior to teaching at EMU, Ms. DeWard worked as the trainer for the New York State Coalition Against Domestic Violence. She provided national and statewide training about domestic violence advocacy, technology safety, cultural competency and intimate partner sexual violence, among others. Ms. DeWard has worked as a counselor, support group facilitator, advocate, consultant and grant-writer in domestic violence programs in Michigan, South Carolina and New York. Ms. DeWard earned her Master of Science degree in Applied Sociology from Clemson University, and a Bachelors of Arts degree at Western Michigan University.
