Holman Success Coaches are professionals, UNIV Instructors, and Peer Mentors who:

  • Are personal trainers for college 
  • Have experience meeting with students
  • Can help arrange and prioritize your academic life
  • Can connect you to other services when needed
  • Can demonstrate 'how-to-study' techniques
  • Offer one-on-one skill-building workshops .

    Miqui is an international graduate student from Nassau, Bahamas at Eastern Michigan pursuing a master's degree in Higher Education: Student Affairs. She completed her undergraduate studies in Physical Sciences and graduated with a B.A. in Chemistry. She is  excited to be a part of the EMU community and proud to be an Eagle.

  • Shaunda Bunton

    Shaunda M. Bunton is a MA Theatre Arts - Interpretation & Performance Studies graduate student. She in interested in contemplative approaches to creating performance, communities of color, contemporary performance practices and researching what provokes and galvanizes the citizens of Detroit, MI. She is also the Graduate Assistant for EMU's SisterHOOD Initiative.

  • Jessica Hackbarth

    Jessica Hackbarth is a graduate student at EMU working toward her Master's in Educational Leadership: Higher Education/Student Affairs (HESA). She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and Latin American Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay in 2015. Jessica enjoys helping students succeed and seeing their growth and progress over time. In her free time, she likes to travel, watch TV dramas, and go out to eat. She also loves cuddling and playing with her pug dog, Sasha.

  • Alex Kubiak

    Alex couldn't get enough of EMU during her undergrad, so she decided to come back to continue her studies. Her B.A. is in German Language and Literature with a minor in English Linguistics, and she is currently pursuing her M.A. in TESOL. Alex loves working with EMU students and believes that she can strongly influence them to not only succeed academically, but to succeed in all aspects of life. She says that, "With every student comes a special story and a unique experience. I believe that it is through self discovery that we find how to empower and motivate ourselves. Throughout my own journey, I have acquired some useful tools that have taken me far, and I look forward to sharing these tools with my students. I believe that by encouraging students to take such an introspective outlook, these tools can assist them in achieving their own understanding of success."

  •  Byron Sims

    Byron Sims earned a BSW from Eastern Michigan University. In addition to being a UNIV instructor, he is the Graduate Assistant for the BrotherHood Scholars program at Eastern Michigan University and interns at the Detroit Children's Center as a General Health Behavior specialist. Byron enjoys working with youth, as well as with populations that witness daily injustices. In his spare time he enjoys sports, dining, shopping, and traveling with friends and family.
