Success Coaching

HSC is offering in-person and virtual Success Coaching appointments. 

Holman success coaches are professional, full-time staff and graduate assistants who:

  • Are personal trainers for college
  • Have experience meeting with students
  • Assist you in creating a personalized academic plan, including setting short- and long-term goals
  • Can help you learn to arrange and prioritize your academic life
  • Can connect you to other services when needed
  • Can demonstrate 'how-to-study' techniques
  • Offer one-on-one skill-building workshops 

Why You Should Meet with a Success Coach

Meeting with a success coach is an excellent way to get you on track academically and personalize your education. We assist students in navigating the University system, as well as in tracking progress toward both academic and personal goals. If you need a hand in developing a plan of action to tackle academic challenges and attain personal achievement, we are here to help!

  • Elijah Lavey, Graduate Assistant and Success Coach

    Elijah LaveyElijah is a Success Coach for the Holman Success Center. He graduated from Alma College in 2024 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and is currently pursuing a Master's of Science in General Clinical Psychology here at Eastern Michigan University.

    Before becoming a Success Coach, Elijah worked as a front desk employee for the Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) center on campus, assisting students in navigating and scheduling appointments to utilize the mental health services available. For hobbies, Elijah loves to run, lift, spend time outdoors, and try new coffee shops. When it comes to working as a success coach, he is passionate about helping students discover their strengths and meet their goals.

  • Serena Baker, 4S 4 Success Graduate Assistant and Success Coach

    Serena Baker Serena Baker is currently a Graduate Assistant for the Holman Success Center with a focus on the 4S 4 Success Program. She is also currently a Master of Public Health student here at EMU. Serena has for passion for health education, higher education, and being a forever learner. She is very excited to work with the students here at EMU and hopes that we can be a service to the community here.

  • Grant Saba, Graduate Assistant and Success Coach

    Grant SabaGrant is aSuccess Coach for the Holman Success Center. Grant previously received his BS in general psychology from Eastern Michigan University in 2025, and has returned to pursue his MS in clinical behavioral psychology, with primary interests in interventions for substance use disorders, and how substance use impacts decision-making. During his time as an undergraduate, Grant worked as a Supplemental Instruction Leader for core psychology courses, such as statistics and research methods. Grant is passionate about student success and advocating for students, with a goal of making sure that his students have as good of an experience at EMU as he did as an undergrad.

    Outside of his work at the HSC, you can usually find Grant taking a walk, reading a book, planning his next travel destination, or preparing a meal for his friends and family. If you’re new to the area and looking for a restaurant recommendation, ask Grant; he’ll probably have a dozen!

    Ally RobertdsAlly has earned her Master of Arts in Educational Leadership: Higher Education Student Affairs (HESA), and a Bachelor of General Studies (ISP) with concentrations in Teaching and Learning, Mathematics, and Earth and Space Sciences. Both of her degrees were earned at Eastern Michigan University.

    Ally spent her undergraduate and graduate years in Housing and Residence Life where she discovered her passion for holistic student support. As a former first generation, low income, and disabled college student, Ally is dedicated to helping students discover their strengths, gain/refine skills, and achieve their goals while ensuring balance in their lives.

  • Kim Jones, Success Coach

    Kimberly Jones has earned her master's in educational leadership: higher education student affairs (HESA), a graduate certificate in higher education: academic advising, a bachelor's degree in psychology, and a bachelor's in literature; all from Eastern Michigan University. Kim has spent over 10 years working with the EMU Alumni Association and has spent the past two years as the Eastern Michigan University Black Alumni Association (EMUBA) president. Kim is dedicated to helping students achieve their academic and professional goals in life while maintaining a fun and engaged work-life balance. In her spare time, Kim is a devoted mother to her children and works on the board of her high school alumni association.
