Safe Routes to School

Dr. Xining Yang (PI) received a $25,000 grant to promote active living in Hamtramck, Michigan. The project "Safe Routes to School Active Transportation Programs" was recently awarded by Michigan Fitness Foundation and the Michigan Department of Transportation in the school year 2019-2020. Yang and Dr. Tsu-Yin Wu will be implementing a variety of project activities including walk to school day in the city of Hamtramck with community partners and Hamtramck Public Schools to promote walking and biking as a healthy lifestyle using geospatial technology and citizen science.

Join us for the Hamtramck Safe Routes to School Kick-Off!

We will be meeting on Monday, November 4, 3:30–5:15 pm. at the Hamtramck Public Schools Administration Building at 3201 Roosevelt in Hamtramck.

SRTS is a program using a variety of education, engineering and enforcement strategies to help make routes safer for children to walk and bicycle to school and encouragement strategies to entice more children to walk and bike.

We would like to bring together people from the community, especially representatives from transportation or traffic domain, public works, city government, law enforcement and local pedestrian/bicycle/safety advocates.
