The College of Health and Human Services’ mission to improve the lives of others through collaboration extends far beyond the classroom. A shining example of this mission is the Autism Collaborative Center (ACC), a therapeutic clinic on EMU’s campus. The ACC is dedicated to the treatment and support of individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families.

As a part of Eastern Michigan University’s College of Health and Human Services, the ACC offers a variety of services and programs for individuals of all ages and ability levels. They have a multidisciplinary team of professionals who study each client case and determine the best course of treatment for each individual. The ACC philosophy is that by addressing the needs of the whole family, they best serve the individual with autism and allow them to reach their maximum potential. The ACC is dedicated to providing their clients services that are evidence based and meet best practice standards.

Some examples of these services and programs are early intensive behavioral intervention, occupational therapy, speech language pathology and PEERS®.

The ACC is a teaching facility that provides students an opportunity to learn about and work directly with persons with autism and their families. Students who study occupational therapy, psychology, social work, and speech and language pathology work alongside the highly trained staff of the ACC. This is a great first-hand learning tool to guide the instruction of future healthcare professionals.
