Play a Critical Role in Healthcare with a Bachelor's in Nursing

A bachelor of science in nursing degree, EMU's traditional BSN program, provides students with the essential education and training needed to pursue a career in healthcare. Nursing education covers a range of subjects, including anatomy, pharmacology, patient care, and medical ethics. Nurses play a critical role in healthcare, working in hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, and community settings to support patients' well-being.

With growing demand in the field, a nursing degree offers job stability, career growth, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on individuals' lives. Additionally, nurses can specialize in various areas such as pediatrics, emergency care, or research, allowing them to tailor their careers to their interests and strengths.

There couldn’t be a better time to pursue a career in nursing. Jobs in nursing are growing exponentially and starting with a bachelor's degree will give you an advantage over the competition. In a recent survey, job pursuers with a bachelor’s in nursing were eligible for 88% of the posted positions. It’s becoming more and more likely that a BSN degree will be required in the future as more hospitals seek "magnet" destination status.

Which Pathway is for Me

Traditional BSN

  • Designed for first-time college students or those without a prior bachelor's degree.
  • Typically spans over four years, including general education and nursing courses.
  • Requires completion of specific prerequisites with a minimum GPA, along with standardized test scores.

Second Degree BSN

  • Tailored for individuals who already possess a non-nursing bachelor's degree and wish to transition into nursing.
  • An accelerated program, often completed in approximately 20 months, focusing intensively on nursing coursework.
  • In addition to prerequisites, applicants must hold a non-nursing bachelor's degree.

Meet the need. Nurses are:

  • In demand: Careers in nursing are expected to grow by 6% in the next seven years, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
  • Top earners: On average, nurses with a BSN make $10,000 more a year than nurses that enter the profession with an associate's degree.
  • Vital: As baby boomers age and changes occur in healthcare laws, the demand for healthcare professionals is projected to rise.

Expand your abilities. Nurses with BSN clinical experience are equipped to:

  • Work in versatile environments such as hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, long-term care facilities, community health nursing, military settings and home care.
  • Teach, perform case management and work in healthcare research studies and in the insurance industry.
