The College of Education has two endowed chairs; the first college at EMU to have an endowed chair. These chairs allow for an annual appointment of a faculty member, an external faculty member, or in the case of the Porter Chair anyone who whose work supports the mission of the College of Education and the goals of the Porter Chair. In the past the chairs have supported focused projects or a series of speakers.
The specific activities undertaken by the chair must fit within the separate program guidelines and further the strategic mission and goals of the College of inspiring, educating, and preparing undergraduate and graduate students to become outstanding educators, leaders, and scholars in urban, global and diverse educational and community settings. The ways the Chairs do this are very open ended and invite innovative and enriching proposals.
