Advising

College of Education advisors meet with students through online and phone appointments. Individual appointments are ideal for in-depth conversations. Quick questions of 5-10 minutes can be answered through virtual drop-in advising held twice a week. General advising questions can be emailed to [email protected].

COE Scheduled Virtual Advising Appointments

    • If you are a current EMU student or have been formally admitted to EMU, click the appropriate advisor's name below to schedule an appointment with your COE Advisor. All appointments are virtual.
    • Appointment confirmations are sent to your EMU email only.

    Note: You must be logged into my.emich to schedule. If you are new to EMU please make sure you have logged into my.emich AND activated your EMU email before scheduling your appointment. To activate your email, click the three lines in the upper-left corner on the my.emich page. Then, click on “EMU Email” which is the fourth hyperlink in the resources section.

    Schedule an appointment with your advisor

    • Jacob Zeidman - A graduate student, working only with College of Education freshmen.
    • Sam Anthony - A graduate student, working with all COE Undergraduate Teacher Preparation Program and transfer students.
    • Nicole Binkowski - A professional Academic Advisor, working with all COE Undergraduate Teacher Preparation Program students.
    • Molly Thornbladh - A professional Academic Advisor and Coordinator of Records & Teacher Certification, working with Post-Baccalaureate, Masters & Teaching, Certifications or additional endorsement students.
    • Virginia Harder - A Professor in the Teacher Education department, advising students in Undergraduate Elementary and Secondary programs for Winter 2023.
    • Linda Lewis-White - A Professor in the Teacher Education department, advising students in Undergraduate Elementary and Secondary programs for Winter 2023, as well as students in the Reading MA program.

  • Prospective Students / Students Returning After More Than Two Years Expand dropdown

    If you already have a bachelor’s degree or higher, and are interested in becoming certified to teach, please schedule an appointment with Molly Thornbladh.

    If you are an undergraduate student interested in attending or returning to EMU, or have applied and are not yet admitted, please submit the COE Advising Appointment Request form to schedule an appointment. Upon submission, we will compare your availability with that of our Advisors and schedule an appointment accordingly. Please be patient. If clarification is needed, we will call you at the number you provide. Appointments will be scheduled and confirmed as soon as possible within business hours.

COE Undergraduate Virtual Drop-in Advising

For the Fall 2022 semester all day virtual drop-in advising is available to accommodate as many students as possible during our peak times. We will be available all day Tuesdays and Thursdays the first two weeks of the semester, two weeks during anticipated Winter 2023 registration, and the last two weeks of the semester. Our staff is available from 9:00am to 12:00pm and 1:00pm to 4:00pm on the dates of 8/30, 9/1, 9/6, 9/8, 11/8, 11/10, 11/15, 11/17, 12/6, 12/8. Go to a Virtual Drop-in Advising session via Zoom. Students are otherwise encouraged to make an appointment with an Advisor as indicated above.

COE Group Advising/Canvas Advising

Group Advising, suggested to be taken in the sophomore year and required for admission to Teacher Preparation Candidacy, can be completed through a self-paced Canvas session called “Navigating the EMU Path to Becoming a Teacher". Please email [email protected] to request access to this session
