Biography

Dr. Kimberly Kappler Hewitt serves as professor of educational leadership and department head for the Department of Leadership and Counseling.  She works to cultivate a community of care where all faculty, staff, and students feel seen, heard, valued, and uplifted so that they can thrive and soar.

Prior to coming to EMU in 2022, Hewitt served as director and principal investigator for the Principal Preparation for Excellence and Equity in Rural Schools (PPEERS) program, which involved a partnership with 12 rural districts and received ~$10 million in grant funding.  PPEERS received the 2021 Exemplary Educational Leadership Program Award from the University Council of Educational Administration.
