Cathy Kava is a part-time lecturer in the Department of Special Education with over 37 years of teaching experience in the field of special education. She teaches courses on learning disabilities, emotional impairments, and cognitive disabilities as well as general special education courses. Previously, while working for the Plymouth-Canton School District, she developed inclusive courses and after school programs for students with special needs and general education students to work, play, and provide community service together. She has been a presenter at the annual Michigan Council for Exceptional Children Conference, Family and Consumer Science Educators of Michigan Conference, and Michigan Transition Services Conference and has received local awards from the Wayne County ARC and Plymouth Canton Special Education Parent Advisory Committee for her commitment to special education and inclusive services. In addition, she received the Extra Miler Award from the Plymouth Canton Community School District for bringing Unified Sports to their district. Cathy is experienced in curriculum writing for cognitive impairments and in using Positive Behavior Supports, Behavior Management and Interventions, Functional Behavior Analysis and Behavior Plan writing and implementation.
