The Graduate Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages/TESOL prepares teachers who are already certified to teach English as a second language. This program is for students who have studied at least one year of a foreign language at the college level and who wish to earn an ESL endorsement in the State of Michigan.
What You Will Learn
You will be enabled to address more effectively the academic and social challenges of an increasingly diverse student population, including the growing number of English language learners, and to appreciate those students as resources for instruction and classroom management.
Opportunities
Students in this program, in the context of other program requirements, qualify for recommendation for endorsement in ESL in the State of Michigan. Students in this program can take advantage of all that the College of Education has to offer. Those interested may seek advising, apply for scholarships, and participate in activities both in the Department of World Languages, the home department for this major, and in the Department of Teacher Education.
