The Master of Arts in Teaching Physical Science, leading to initial teaching certification in Physical Science Grades 6-12, is a 37-38 credit hour program. The program is intended for students with a BA or BS in Physics, Physical Science, and/or Integrated Science or General Science, or an equivalent degree (e.g., Engineering) who wish to earn teacher certification with the State of Michigan.
What You Will Learn
You will learn physical science from a teacher’s perspective, curriculum and methods for teaching in secondary school, psychology of adolescence, classroom assessment design, technology and student-centered learning practices, and methods for creating and maintaining an inclusive educational environment.
Opportunities
Certified teachers with the Physical Science (BS) endorsement can teach a variety of sciences in 6-12th grade classrooms. As a student in this program, you may seek advising, apply for scholarships, and participate in activities both in the Department of Physics & Astronomy in the College of Arts and Sciences, the home department for this program, and in the Department of Teacher Education in the College of Education, home of the professional teaching courses.
