The Secondary Education Communication and Theatre Arts Teaching Minor along with skills acquired through a major course of study, provides an applicable understanding of Communication, Media, and Theatre Arts associated with teaching these subjects to 6-12th grade classrooms.

What You Will Learn

You will have the opportunity to study listening behavior, interpersonal communications, directing, interpretive reading, theatre appreciation and digital media production. Additional courses in education and teaching methods will allow you to develop curriculum, lessons, activities, assignments and assessment tools for middle school and high school programs in each of these areas.

Opportunities

Successful completion of this minor, in the context of other program requirements, qualifies the student for recommendation for the Michigan Department of Education Speech (BD) endorsement. Certified teachers with the Speech endorsement can teach Speech, Communication, Media, and Theatre in 6-12th grade classrooms.
