Undergraduate Programs
The Secondary Education Social Studies programs include the following bachelor's degrees:
- Secondary Education Social Studies/Economics
- Secondary Education Social Studies/Geography
- Secondary Education Social Studies/History
- Secondary Education Social Studies/Political Science
Along with the liberal arts requirements, these programs lead to teacher certification for 6-12 grades in classrooms of their respective social studies.
Secondary Education Social Studies/Economics Comprehensive [BA]
The Bachelor of Arts with a Secondary Education Social Studies/Economics Comprehensive Major will prepare you to teach history, geography, political science, and economics to middle school and high school learners.
What You Will Learn
You will learn a combination of the study of the four social studies disciplines: economics, geography, history, and political science. You will have a thorough grounding in the theory and practice of teaching with a particular interest in economics.
Opportunities
Certified teachers in Michigan with the Social Studies (RX) endorsement can teach in 6-12th grade Social Studies classrooms. This program also leads to the Economics (CA) endorsement which allows you to teach economics to secondary level students. As a student in this program, you may seek advising, apply for scholarships, and participate in activities both in the Department of History & Philosophy in the College of Arts and Sciences, the home department for this major, and in the Department of Teacher Education in the College of Education, home of the professional teaching courses.

The Bachelor of Arts with a Secondary Education Social Studies/Geography Comprehensive Major will prepare you to teach history, geography, political science, and economics to middle school and high school learners.
