In Memoriam

John W. Porter (1932-2012) who led Eastern Michigan University through a remarkable period of advancement, growth and stability, died on June 27, 2012. He was 80. Porter was president of EMU from 1979 to 1989 and left a legacy that is still felt on campus today. EMU will celebrate his life at a memorial service at 3 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, in the Student Center Ballroom.

Louis C. Thayer (1939-2012) served as a professor in the College of Education's Counseling Program from 1969 to 2004. His daughter Shannon is a recent graduate of the program, and his daughter Alison (Livingston) is currently enrolled in it. Dr. Thayer leaves a great legacy of teaching, service and scholarly contributions to EMU and the counseling education profession.
