Charles Elliott, founder of the EMU Rackham School of Education, along with emeritus EMU special education faculty member and department head, Francis Lord, were posthumously inducted into the College of Education Alumni Hall of Fame. The ceremony took place during the 100th Anniversary of Special Education at EMU Celebration on Saturday, May 17, 2014 in the John W. Porter Building.
The Brehm Scholars Alumni Association will host the second annual Brehm Conference entitled, Connecting the Dots: Recharting Ideas for Inclusive Societies, on Friday, November 21, 2014 in the EMU Student Center. Proposals for oral and poster presentations are now being accepted online until Wednesday, July 30, 2014. For conference updates, visit the Brehm Center website.
Chad Snider (MM12) runs a new initiative called the College Ambition Program (CAP) at Robichaud High School in the Westwood Community School District in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. CAP is free program funded by Michigan State University's College of Education, and is aimed at educating students on college options, financial aid planning, and more. Christine S. Swanson (BS01), a former special education teacher media specialist and intervention specialist, has been hired as the principal of Edison Elementary School in the Wayne-Westland School District.
Jeff S. Chaney (BS02), 7th grade math teacher, was recognized as the Spotlight Teacher for Dysart Unified School District in Surprise, AZ.
Chiara Hensley (MA04) has been named Ombudsman for Eastern Michigan University. In her new role Hensley will provide students with guidance and a listening ear regarding any issue a student may encounter while at the University.
Edward M. Connor Jr. (BS05), a teacher at University High School in Ferndale, Michigan, aspires to boost student literacy through his Boys 2 Books programs. Boys 2 Books is geared award young male students fighting literacy issues and other struggles common to teenage males.
