2013-14 Porter Chair Speaker Series wraps-up with Barbara Ransom

The John W. Porter Distinguished Chair in Urban Education presented the 2013-2014 Speaker Series: Reach, Teach, and Inspire. The speaker series began on June 26, 2013 with guest speakers Jonathan Kozol, followed by Dan Habib and wrapped up the winter 2014 semester with three additional distinguished guest speakers including:

  • Colleen Weick, executive director for the Minnesota Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities. She spoke at Eastern on February 12, 2014 on the topic of "Special Education: Where Have We Been?"
  • Douglas Fuchs spoke on March 18, 2014 on "A Multi-Site, Multi-Year Longitudinal Study of Bringing An Evidence-Based Educational Practice to Scale."
  • Barbara Ransom, a plaintiff's attorney in disability rights spoke at EMU on May 17, 2014 as part of the 100th anniversary celebration of the special education program. She talked on "Breaking the School to Prison Pipeline with Advocacy, Common Sense and the Law."
