    Meet Dr. Brendan Kelly! Dr. Kelly earned his bachelor’s degree in public relations from EMU in 1998, his master’s degree in communication from EMU in 2000, and his doctorate from Wayne State University in 2005. While a student, Dr. Kelly spent most of his time with the EMU Forensics Team, which, he said, greatly shaped his career. He also credits EMU’s public relations program as setting the foundation for his career, where he learned practices that still help in his current role as president of the Arkansas State University System.

    Meet Tim McIntyre, a 1985 graduate and trailblazer in the communications industry! While at Eastern, Tim made history as the first-ever editor-in-chief to be reelected twice. His journey then took him to Domino’s Pizza, where he rose to vice president of communications before retiring in 2022. But Tim’s story doesn’t end there. He returned to his roots in 2023, joining EMU to teach crisis management in public relations. We’re proud to have such an accomplished EMU alum back on campus, shaping the next generation of public relations leaders!

    Meet Michal Liberman, a 2019 graduate of our PR program and a true example of EMU excellence! While at EMU, Michal honed her skills as an intern in University Communications, writing press releases and covering campus events. Her experience there taught her how to craft key messages with precision — a skill she uses daily as the CRM Director at TheSak.com. We're so proud to see Michal thriving in her career and making an impact in the world of communications!

    Meet Laura Hargis! Laura graduated from EMU in 2012. During her time at EMU, Laura was involved in the Public Relations Student Society of America and the Health Administration Student Organization. She also interned with the Community Action Agency and American Red Cross, which gave her valuable hands-on experience in public relations and event management. Laura credits the PR program with encouraging her to network not only with PR professionals but other professionals, which led her to a different path outside of the PR world. Currently, she is a senior physician recruiter at Henry Ford Health.

    "All of the professors in my core courses spoke from life experience, and I always found that to be so valuable. Now that I'm in the counseling field, I often recall those experiences, and they are wonderful guides."

    Brian Titus completed his undergraduate degree in 2006 and then returned to complete his graduate program in 2023. Like most Eagles here at Eastern, Brian commuted back and forth to campus. While on campus, he could easily be found either researching in the library or studying at the student union. Brian finds great value in the personal experiences his professors shared with him, and he still uses those today in his role as a clinical mental health counselor at Deepwater Counseling.

    Meet Dan Gretzner! Dan graduated from EMU in 1991 with a bachelor’s degree in public relations and a minor in marketing. While here, Dan worked for the Eastern Echo as an assistant sports editor and staff writer. He also served as vice president of Women in Communications, Inc. At EMU, Dan met people who he says have helped him to "grow as a writer, communicator, and person."  In 2024, Dan received the  2024 PACE SAFE Award, sponsored by the Pride Alliance of CMS Energy. It recognizes co-workers for promoting a safe, supportive, and inclusive space for LGBTQIA+ and empowering them to be their authentic selves. Dan is now the senior channel manager of brand events & production at Consumers Energy. And, as one additional fun fact, Dan has two daughters currently enrolled in EMU’s Honors College. Hannah and Jordan, we’re glad you’re here!

    Meet Dr. Shannon Thomison! Dr. Thomison started developing her career as an Eagle, earning her bachelor’s degree in public relations in 2007 and her master's degree in human resources and organizational development in 2010. During her time at EMU, Dr. Thomison was on the executive board for both the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) and the graduate chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). These experiences were invaluable, helping her to find her calling in higher education. In September 2024, she earned her doctorate degree from Adler University, where she now serves as the doctoral academic advisor and dissertation reader for the online campus!

    Meet Erin Incarnati! Erin graduated from EMU in the fall of 2009. During her time as a student, she was involved in the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority, as well as PRSSA. Her time at EMU aided her in improving a variety of skills, including writing and marketing. Additionally, she was enrolled in two internships where she gained experience in product promotion, event planning, and fostering relationships with the media. Currently, Erin serves as the marketing communications contractor at McLaren Health Care Corp.

    Meet Matthew Eder!  Matthew graduated from EMU in 2001. During his time at EMU, he participated in PRSSA and even served as president during his senior year. Matthew credits his EMU professors for teaching him how to write and edit others’ writing, which he says is critical in communication. He believes the ability to communicate well helps young professionals enter the workforce. Currently, Matthew is the vice president of service solutions for Custom Glass Solutions.

    Meet Alison Decker! Alison graduated from EMU in 2005. During her time at EMU, she was involved in the Public Relations Student Society of America and a teen mentorship program. She also completed two internships with Shazamm Public Relations and a nearby HIV/AIDS community center, which prepared her for the professional environment of post-graduation. She credits the EMU PR program for fully equipping her for her future and teaching her essential skills that have benefited her in her professional journey. Currently, Alison is a self-employed subcontractor for several mid-sized businesses in the Phoenix, Arizona, metropolitan area!

    Meet TaQuinda Marie Johnson! TaQuinda completed her bachelor’s degree in public relations in 2005. She then returned to Eastern in 2017 and completed her master’s degree in integrated marketing and communication. TaQuinda served as the first-ever female African-American president of PRSA-Detroit in 2024. She currently works for Oakland University as the assistant director of communications.

    Meet Laura Lesko Lewis. Laura graduated from EMU in 2002. During her time at EMU, she was involved in many organizations including Delta Zeta Sorority, the Public Relations Student Society of America, and AmeriCorps. She participated in the Disney College Program in merchandising and guest relations in the Magic Kingdom. She also had an internship in New York City at Ketchum Public Relations, which opened her eyes to all the possibilities of working both for an agency and on the client side for major consumer brands. Currently, Laura is the chief communications officer for CREW Network!

    Meet Angel Reynolds! Angel graduated from EMU in 2018. While at EMU she was the public relations director for N.A.P.S. a student organization that encouraged black women to proudly embrace their natural hair. She had several internships, but her favorite was with Henry Ford Health Systems. Angel’s advice to any student looking for an internship is to complete as many as possible, as they will help you find your fit with your future career. Currently, she is a 6th-grade ELA teacher in Metro Atlanta.

    Meet Stephanie Scheer! Stephanie graduated from EMU in 2009. During her time at EMU she was involved in the Public Relations Student Society of America and was an intern with Henry Ford Health. During her internship with Henry Ford Health, she gained experience in many key areas of public relations. She credits EMU for helping her get to where she is today. Currently, Stephanie is the communications manager at Henry Ford Health.

    Meet Kristen Shinaver! Kristen graduated from EMU in 2011. During her time at EMU, she was involved in several campus organizations including the Eastern Echo, the Public Relations Student Society of America, the Student Advertising Association, Psi Chi, and was on the water polo team. Kristen also interned with the EMU Athletics Marketing department where she worked to promote the football team. Currently, Kristen is the social media and brand development manager at the University of Toledo Business Incubator.

    Meet Tim Wieland! Tim graduated from EMU in 2003. During his time at EMU, he was involved in several organizations including the Public Relations Student Society of America, Eastern Echo, New Student Orientation, and Campus Life. Tim also was an intern at the Detroit Athletic Club writing for their magazine. While there he wrote feature stories about businesses and historical topics related to the club and was even responsible for planning the issue about the opening of Ford Field! Currently, Tim is the director of corporate communications at Bosch North America.

    Meet Toni Burke! Toni graduated from EMU in 2003. While at EMU Toni gained valuable experience as an interim public relations manager for an area hospital. Toni met some of her closest friends while living on campus and remains close to them today. Toni credits her education for helping her succeed as a lawyer. Currently, Toni is the associate general counsel for Gordon Food Service, one of the largest privately held businesses in Michigan!

    Meet Bonnie Holyoak! Bonnie graduated from EMU in 1995. During her time at EMU Bonnie took care of her four children. She balanced caring for her family with focusing on her studies. She was the executive director of the Plymouth Symphony where she was responsible for many tasks including all media coverage, fundraising, and writing grants.

    Meet Paula Walling!  Paula graduated from Eastern in 2002 and was involved in PRSSA and several internships, including the Motorsports Hall of Fame, during her time there. She credits EMU for preparing her for the professional world and appreciates the phenomenal professors who guided her. After graduation, Paula worked at a public relations agency in the Metro-Detroit area, and in 2004 she moved to Arizona. There she worked in PR for 10 more years and transitioned into a career of technical writing and editing. In 2012, she started at Honeywell Aerospace, a site that designs and manufactures various types of engines for airplanes, helicopters, and tanks – and is still there. She helps engineers prepare and edit documents that are sent over to their customers, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the military. Outside of work, Paula is married with a 6-year-old son and loves spending time with her family, Legos, and motorsports.
