Rachel Gramer

Director of First Year Writing Program

Dr. Gramer served as EMU’s associate director of First Year Writing before becoming its director in 2018. In her teaching and administrative work, she creates structures for equitable support and education for all students, with particular emphasis on supporting marginalized and historically underrepresented groups. She received a Ph.D. in rhetoric and composition from the University of Louisville, where she also served as assistant director of the Composition Program.


At EMU, Dr. Gramer has taught first-year writing courses (both WRTG 120 and WRTG 121) and the graduate-level pedagogy course for new college writing teachers (WRTG 596). Before coming to EMU, she taught first-year writing courses in multiple states and at different institution types: a four-year metropolitan university in Louisville, Kentucky and a two-year college and public high school in central Florida.

 

 

Logan Bearden

Dr. Bearden joined EMU in 2016. His research focuses on writing programs and writing program administration, so he was happy to have the opportunity to become the associate director in 2018. His administrative style focuses on collaboration and mentorship, especially with first-year writing instructors. He has a Ph.D. in rhetoric and composition from Florida State University, where he also served as the assistant to the director of college composition.

Dr. Bearden has taught first-year writing (WRTG 121), intermediate composition (WRTG 225), undergraduate courses in professional writing (WRTG 328, WRTG 354, and WRTG 417), and a graduate-level course introducing students to the intellectual work of writing studies (WRTG 500).
