Fish Lake Environmental Education Center
Located in Lapeer, Michigan, the Fish Lake Environmental Education Center offers graduate and undergraduate courses in an accelerated format. The property is nestled within 240 acres of fields, woodlands and wetlands and provides an extraordinary diversity of ecological communities and habitats characteristic of southern and central Michigan.

Natural History
Geologically the area is an interlobate or kettle-moraine region. Such areas typically exhibit a great variety of continental glacial features within relatively small areas. Both wet and dry kettles, recessional moraines, till plains, outwash plains, kames and an esker can be found on or very near the center.
The diverse topography and unique location of Fish Lake near the border of southern and northern Michigan climatic zones promise an exciting variety of interesting species to study. Many large and small lakes, several streams and the Flint River are within easy reach for aquatic studies. Both a tamarack bog at Fish Lake and a spruce bog nearby offer unique study opportunities. Terrestrial communities are equally diverse and range from old fields to oak-hickory forest. A number of ephemeral ponds are found both in the open and in wooded areas. Even a few of the original (pre-lumbering) pines and hemlocks can be found scattered on the site.

Facilities
Facilities include classrooms, a dining hall and a dormitory. The dorm has large sleeping areas and can accommodate 60 adults (or up to 80 children). Bedding and toiletries are not provided. A modern dining hall provides meals for users of the center.
Our facilities may be rented. The cost depends on number of nights, meals and size/type of group (school camp or weekend retreat). Contact us for more information.
