The Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages Minor (TESOL - elementary, secondary, and non-certification) is designed for individuals who intend to teach English as a second language in any setting - schools, corporations, community centers, etc. - and can be combined with any major program of study.

What You Will Learn

You will learn grammar, second language acquisition techniques, literacy, listening and speaking methodology, content-based approaches, testing and assessment, along with linguistic and cultural diversity in the U.S. and global englishes.

Opportunities

Successful completion of this minor, in the context of other program requirements, qualifies the student for recommendation for endorsement in English as a Second Language (NS) in the state of Michigan. You may also pursue opportunities in other settings, like international corporations, non-profits, community centers, and so on.
