Digital Humanities Learning Community

Students Inside a Classroom in the University

The Digital Humanities Learning Community is an academic year-long community that creates opportunities for EMU instructors to explore the theory and practice of leveraging the digital humanities within their own classrooms. A small group of 4-6 dedicated instructors will learn various approaches and benefits to incorporating the digital humanities in courses; learn from leading experts in the field; practice with different tools and interfaces; and design a potential project for their own classroom. Participants in collaboration with the facilitators will seek out compelling ways to blend research and practice by designing digital humanities projects within their courses, thus creating unique and meaningful opportunities for students to engage in publicly accessible research. Faculty completing this learning community will receive an honorarium of $325 at the end of the school year.

For examples of past digital history projects that the facilitators have been part of, you can visit Rise Up Detroit and the New York City Civil Rights History Project

1) Participants in the Digital Humanities Learning Community will understand the opportunities and challenges associated with digital humanities projects and their incorporation into the classroom.

2) Participants in the Digital Humanities Learning Community will develop a plan for implementing a digital humanities project.
