The Faculty Development Center, in partnership with the Graduate School, has compiled a list of helpful on-campus resources for new faculty, lecturers, teaching graduate assistants, and doctoral fellows. We hope that this list helps familiarize you with the offices and contacts around campus to make your transition to Eastern as smooth as possible.     • Faculty Development Center Expand dropdown
      The Faculty Development Center (FDC) is a place for all faculty, lecturers, and teaching graduate assistants to find support in their teaching. The FDC provides various professional development opportunities, including conferences, workshops, funding opportunities, and more.       The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) provides students legal protection and privacy over their academic records. Faculty, instructors, graduate teaching assistants, and any staff or student worker who engages with student records are required to work in compliance with this act. The FERPA Guide, made by the Office of Records and Registration, is a helpful resource. Further, the Registrar is available to answer questions at [email protected].

      The Disability Resource Center (DRC) in 246 Student Center works collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff to create an accessible, sustainable, and inclusive educational environment for all students. Students may request accommodations via the  DRC portal. For information on how to best support a student needing an accommodation, call 734.487.2470 or email [email protected].

      The Holman Success Center provides academic support to students. The Center offers tutoring, supplemental instruction, success coaching, and peer academic coaching. Students can sign up for a variety of workshops, and can book office hours online.       The University Writing Center offers writing resources and support to all undergraduate and graduate students and all EMU faculty and staff. Writing support is available in-person, via Zoom, or asynchronously. Graduate students, staff, and faculty may request writing assistance one time per week by filling out this Writing Support Form. Undergraduate students can request writing support each day at WCOnline.

      Students concerned about University policies, procedures, and decisions can contact the Office of the Ombuds in 248 Student Center by calling 734.487.0074 or emailing [email protected]. The Ombuds office provides a confidential and neutral place for students to express concerns and seek possible solutions to problems.
    • Counseling and Psychological Services Expand dropdown
      If you are experiencing anxiety, stress, or related feelings and would like support, please contact Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). CAPS is dedicated to addressing the mental health needs of Eastern’s students through confidential counseling. The office is located at 1075 N. Huron Drive in the Campus Wellness Center. Our trained counselors and staff of CAPS can be reached by email at [email protected] or by phone at 734.487.1118.

      The University’s Health Center, Trinity Health IHA Health Center @ EMU, is located on the north side of campus off of Oakwood and Huron River Drive at 1065 N. Huron River Dr. Visit the Health Center website or call 734.896.4110 for information about the services it provides, the hours of operation, or to make an appointment. The Health Center also houses the Campus Medical Pharmacy, which can fill prescriptions and provide over-the-counter health products.       The Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at Eastern Michigan University supports and empowers students from marginalized communities, provides intentional learning experiences, and challenges systems and structures that perpetuate inequities.       The Dean of Students (DOS) Office works with students, students’ families, faculty, and staff to create a culture of care designed to enhance students’ academic and personal success. This office navigates support for students facing any number of barriers or disruptions to student success.       Swoop's Food Pantry provides the University community with both food and non-food item assistance. The Pantry is located in 104 Pierce Hall. Any EMU faculty, staff, or student can use the pantry during open hoursby completing and submitting the intake form.       The Student Emergency Fund is a resource for students facing unforeseen financial crises that put them in harm's way or could prevent them from continuing their education. Students can apply for up to $750 of one-time assistance for eligible expenses like food, rent, medical bills, and car repairs. Access this link for additional information.

    • Campus Safety Expand dropdown

      The EMU Police Department is available to respond to any safety question or concern. Further, they are highly trained to investigate all matters related to the safety of the EMU campus community. Threats to individuals on campus or our greater community at large are investigated thoroughly and, when warranted, with the assistance of other local, state and federal policing agencies. For additional information on campus safety and active shooter/ALICE training, please visit the EMU Police Department’s website.

    • Student Behavior Protocol

      Campus police may be contacted for any behavior that creates an unsafe environment. All other concerns should be directed to your Department Head/Supervisor and/or the Student Intervention Team (SIT). The Student Intervention Team (SIT) addresses reports of troubling (inappropriate, disruptive, or harmful) student behavior in order to recommend proactive and non-punitive approaches aimed at helping students achieve success.
    • *Clery Act

      The Clery Act is a landmark federal law that requires colleges and universities across the United States to disclose information about crimes on and around their campuses.These crime allegations must be reported by any/all faculty, staff, lecturers, graduate assistants, and student workers to the EMU Police Department or to the local police. Additional information and resources related to EMU's responsibilities under the Clery Act, including a Clery Act training module for EMU employees, can be found on the EMU Police website.

    • *Sexual Misconduct Prevention and Response Office (formerly Title IX Office)

      The Sexual Misconduct Prevention and Response Office at Eastern Michigan University is dedicated to promoting gender equality and inclusion, including the coordination of the University's efforts to prevent and effectively respond to all forms of gender discrimination and sexual misconduct, including sexual and relationship violence, that occurs within and impacts our university community including sexual harassment, sexual assault, domestic and dating violence, and stalking. Faculty, staff, lecturers, graduate assistants, and student workers are to report all incidents of, or reported incidents of misconduct. The University's Sexual Misconduct and Sex-Based Discrimination Policy, which is enforced by the Sexual Misconduct Prevention and Response Office, can be found here:  https://emich.policytech.com/dotNet/documents/?docid=376&public=true.     • The Office of Research Development and Administration Expand dropdown
      The Office of Research Development and Administration (ORDA) provides support, guidance, and project management to faculty who seek to have their research externally and internally funded. The ORDA website provides information on training and administrative support. Located at 200 Boone Hall, the Office of Graduate Studies and Research is the University’s information center for graduate students, as well as the supportive office for faculty awards, and research compliance

      The Graduate School provides policy guidance, scholarship information, workshops, and events for Eastern’s graduate community. Among the annual events hosted by the Graduate School are the 3 Minute Thesis Competition, the George Liepa Sigma XI Lecture Series, and the Graduate Research and Creative Activity Conference.

      The Office of Public Safety offers a variety of Environmental Health and Safety Courses. Every Eastern Michigan University employee, including graduate assistants and student employees are welcome to attend those listed. Based on role and function, some trainings may be required.       Cybersecurity and identity theft precautions are more important than ever. A variety of “phishing” email scams designed to gain access to personal information are uncovered regularly. EMU’s Division of Information Technology (IT) has many resources available to you to help you identify a “phishing” scam. Please visit the IT security website for additional information and precautions. If you believe that your computer system has been compromised in any way, report the incident to the IT Help Desk at 734.487.2120 for further evaluation.

      Parking at EMU is managed by LAZ parking. The Park EMU website can be used to buy a parking permit, pay a citation, or ask a question. Park EMU’s office is located at 1200 Oakwood Dr, and they can be reached by phone at 734.217.4892.

    • Headshot Photos Expand dropdown

      Faculty, staff, and students can get headshot photos taken in 18 Welch Hall. These only take about 10 minutes to complete. To schedule a headshot, submit a Photo Request Form. If you have any questions, please contact the Division of Communication at 734-487-6895.
