Call for Papers

GSES-2016 is the fourth annual academic conference in a series held one year in China and another in USA sponsored by an agreement between Eastern Michigan University and Wuhan University of China. The conference attracts participants in a diverse range of fields, including geographic information science, geo-design, geo-sustainability studies, ecological and environmental sciences, resource management and policy, and sustainable urban and regional development and modeling. GSES-2016 continues the conference series’ unique blend of topics focusing on geo-spatial analysis and technologies and their applications in natural resource management and sustainable society.

Authors from around the world are welcome to gather at this international event. After the conference, special issues in several selected journals in GIScience, sustainability studies, urban and regional modeling, will be published based on topics from the conference, which include but are not limited to:

  • Track 1. Advanced geo-computational modelling and spatial analysis
  • Track 2. Ecological, environmental and socioeconomic modeling and coupling
  • Track 3. Smart city and geo-design
  • Track 4. Spatial data acquisition through RS and GIS and big-data analytics
  • Track 5. Application of Geo-Informatics insustainable ecosystem and society

Abstract and Paper Deadlines

Authors are invited to submit abstracts of full, original, unpublished research papers that are not being considered for publication in any other forum. Abstracts should be 1 page, and sent electronically via email to GSES2016 abstract submission (gses.paper AT gmail.com).  The deadline for abstract submission is June 30 , 2016. Notification of acceptance will be sent by July 15, 2016.

Draft full manuscripts should be submitted in Microsoft Word/PDF format by September 15, 2016. All submissions will be refereed for quality, originality, and relevance by the Program Committee. Accepted papers will be considered for "Best Paper Award." Selected papers from those presented in the GSES 2016 will be published in one of these two SCI special issues (IJGI, Sustainability), subject to peer review. Authors need to check with guest editors for topic suitability before full paper submission. Submitted papers MUST be written in English.  There may be an additional cost for publication.  Please consult the journals at the links provided above.

The registration deadline is August 15, 2016. Accommodations

The Ann Arbor Marriott Ypsilanti at Eagle Crest is offering special rates for GSES 2016 conference attendees. For reservations, click here.  Rooms are not included in the conference fee.

The closest airport to Ypsilanti, Michigan, is Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW).  Taxis, limosines, and rental cars are available.  There is no hotel shuttle to the Ann Arbor Marriott Ypsilanti at Eagle Crest.

Ypsilanti has the second largest contiguous historic district in the state of Michigan, behind only the much larger city of Grand Rapids. The historic district includes both downtown Ypsilanti, along Michigan Avenue, and the Depot Town area adjacent to Frog Island Park and Riverside Park, which features many specialty shops, bars and grills, and a farmers' market.
