****** Timely Warning 19-04 Update – October 3, 2019 at 5:30 p.m.*******

Investigation of this crime resulted in the arrest of individuals involved in the incident and the recovery of the stolen vehicle. Video surveillance, enhanced security lighting and the cooperation from area police agencies were crucial in the success of the investigation.  It was also learned that the weapon used was an air-soft type pistol.

Timely Warning 19-04 – October 1, 2019

Reported Crime: Armed Robbery, Carjacking, Ypsilanti-On Campus

Location: Pease A-1 Lot , Eastern Michigan University Campus, City of Ypsilanti

The Eastern Michigan University Police Department is investigating an armed robbery/carjacking that occurred in the Pease A-1 lot on the University’s Campus at 9:05pm. The victim, an Eastern Michigan University student, reported that two suspects approached him while he was attempting to get into his vehicle. One of the subjects had a handgun and demanded the victim’s car keys and money. The two suspects then got into the victim’s vehicle and fled the area. No injuries were reported.

The stolen vehicle is described as a 2010, black, Dodge Charger.

Suspect #1 is described as a black male, approximately 18 years old, 5’5” tall, 125lbs, last seen wearing a red/blue/white jacket and blue jeans. Suspect #1 was seen with a small black firearm.

Suspect #2 is described as a black male, approximately 18 years old, 5’9” tall, 140lbs, last seen wearing a white and black sweatshirt, black backpack and grey sweatpants.

The investigation is ongoing.

Timely Warning 19-03 – September 17, 2019

Reported Crime: Shooting, City of Ypsilanti – Off Campus

Location: W. Cross St. and Ballard St., City of Ypsilanti

The Ypsilanti Police Department is investigating a report of a shooting between two individuals in the area of W. Cross St. and Ballard St at approximately 9:15pm on September 17, 2019. One fatality has been reported at the scene and another subject is being treated for injuries at a hospital. Neither of the individuals are EMU students. There is no ongoing threat to campus.

The investigation is ongoing.

Timely Warning 19-02 – September 6, 2019

Reported Crime: Felonious Assault Shooting

Location: 1427 Leforge Rd

The Ypsilanti Police Department is investigating a Felonious Assault Shooting that happened at approximately 10:15 p.m. at 1427 Leforge Rd. One person was taken to St. Joseph Hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound. A second person was then observed leaving St. Joseph Hospital on foot with blood on his clothing in an unknown direction, and his location is unknown at this time. None of the involved individuals are being reported as EMU students. The incident is still under investigation by the Ypsilanti Police Department.

Off-Campus Community Safety Advisory 19-01 – June 3, 2019

Reported Crime: Armed Robbery, City of Ypsilanti – Off Campus

Location: Intersection of Emmet Street and Ballard Street (south of main campus), City of Ypsilanti

The Ypsilanti Police Department responded to a report of an armed robbery at the intersection of Emmet Street and Ballard Street at approximately 1:30 a.m. this morning. The victim told police that a suspect approached him as he was walking on Emmet, near Ballard, produced a weapon and demanded money. The victim said the suspect then fled the area on foot, heading east on Emmet. No injuries were reported. The suspect was described by the victim as an African American male, approximately 5 foot, 10 inches tall,  weighing 200 pounds, and was last seen wearing a tan jacket, a dark hooded sweatshirt, and dark pants.

Timely Warning 19-01 – April 5, 2019

Reported Crime: Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm

Location: Fletcher Building Parking Lot

At approximately 12:55 a.m. this morning, several cars are seen on camera entering the Fletcher Parking Lot off Cornell Road at the far west end of main campus. Several people were seen exiting the vehicles and started dancing around in the lot. One individual is seen to fire several gunshots into the air. At this time no one has been reported to be injured.
