Off-Campus Community Safety Advisory 2023-01
Nature of Incident: Strong Arm Robbery at approximately 10:53 pm, 3/8/2023
Location: Off-Campus 729 W Cross St, Ypsilanti, Mich. 48197 (D.P. Dough
restaurant)
The Ypsilanti Police Department is investigating a report of a strong arm robbery that occurred at the above location. The suspect walked into the restaurant and ordered items. When the clerk opened the register the subject reached over the counter and took an unknown amount of cash. The subject then left the business and fled southbound, behind the building away from campus.
Suspect Description: Black male, 20-30 years old, 5'10" tall with an average to slim build, wearing a face covering (covid mask), dark colored Rick and Morty sweatshirt, and dark pants.
A suspect wearing a similar sweatshirt was involved in a strong arm robbery on the following dates and locations:
2/25/23 at 533 W Cross St. (Gora’s Grill)
3/3/23 at 729 W Cross St. (D.P. Dough)
Additionally, there have been two other strong arm robberies in the area:
2/22/23 at 501 W Cross (Eagle’s Market)
3/8/23, at 219 Emmet St
These incidents are being investigated by the Ypsilanti Police Department. Anyone with information related to these incidents is asked to contact the Ypsilanti Police Department at 734-483-9510.
** UPDATE To Timely Warning 2022-02 **
One of the individuals firing a handgun was last seen wearing a cream colored hoodie. That individual, along with a second individual wearing all dark colored clothing, fled campus in a silver colored Chrysler 4 door sedan.

Timely Warning 2022-02, Sunday October 2nd 2022
Nature of Incident: Weapons Violation/Shots Fired at approximately 3:00 am
Location: Main Campus in the area of Phelps Hall and Sellers Halls
The Eastern Michigan University Police Department is investigating a report of shots being fired between two individuals. At this time no injuries have been reported and the event is not on going. Witnesses have confirmed that two Black male persons last seen wearing dark colored clothing were shooting at each other. Video is being reviewed for possible involved vehicles. YPD and WCSO are assisting. Additional information will be provided as the investigation continues.

Off-Campus Safety Advisory 2022-02
Summary of Incident: The Ypsilanti Police Department is investigating an armed robbery. An employee reported that a suspect entered the store, pointed a handgun and demanded money from a patron. No shots were fired and no one was injured. The suspect was described as a light skinned black male wearing a baseball cap and eyeglasses. A blue or gray colored sedan is believed to be involved. The suspect fled the store headed north toward Huron River Dr.

*****Update to Timely Warning 2022-01, Wednesday, March 9, 2022*****
Nature of incident: Deceased person/suspicious death, reported at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Monday March 7, 2022.
Location: Pease Park, 600 block of W. Cross St., Ypsilanti, Mich.
The investigation revealed a 63 year old Ypsilanti resident died as a result of an accidental fall. No foul play or suspicious circumstances have been identified.

Timely Warning 2022-01, Monday, March 7, 2022
Nature of incident: Deceased person/suspicious death, reported at approximately 7:30 a.m.
Location: Pease Park, 600 block of W. Cross St., Ypsilanti, Mich.
The Eastern Michigan University Police Department is investigating a deceased person, described as a male between the ages of 50 and 60 years old, found in Pease Park. The cause of death has not been determined. The preliminary investigation indicates there is no ongoing safety concern to members of the EMU campus community. Further updates will be provided as additional information is confirmed.

The Ypsilanti Police Department has determined that the off campus investigation, reported on Sunday, Jan. 16, at Peninsular Park, is a homicide. At this time, no suspect information is available and no known threat exists to the EMU community. Off-Campus Community Safety Advisory 2022-01 Sunday, January 16, 2022.
Location of Incident: Peninsular Park-City of Ypsilanti
Nature of Incident: Deceased Person/Suspicious Death
Summary of Incident: The Ypsilanti Police Department is investigating a suspicious death that occurred off campus. Authorities located a deceased male between the ages of 30-40 in Peninsular Park. The cause of death has not been determined and it is unknown how long the person had been in Peninsular Park before being found. The deceased individual was located by a passerby at 11 a.m. this morning. No suspect information is available at this time.
