Chief's Welcome

The primary mission of the Eastern Michigan University Police Department is to provide for the safety and security of all members: students, faculty, staff, and guests of our great University. Policing is as much about education as it is enforcement. To this end, we are dedicated to working closely with our community as a clear statement of learning and growth.

The Eastern Michigan University campus, like most universities today, has its share of crime problems. We realize that the Police Department alone cannot accomplish improved campus safety. We need your help.

The information contained in our website could prevent you from becoming a future victim of on or off campus crime. It is designed to update you on the Eastern Michigan University Police support services as well as the safety-related educational programs, seminars, and activities that are available to you at Eastern Michigan University.

I encourage you to open the lines of communication with us by sharing your thoughts and insights on campus safety, crime prevention and law enforcement. I look forward to working with you to make Eastern Michigan University a safer campus for our community.

Matthew J. Lige
