Welcome from Dean Amy B. Hietapelto, Ph.D.

Amy B. Hietapelto
I am honored to join Eastern Michigan University this summer (2025) as the dean of the AACSB-accredited College of Business. I am privileged to collaborate with faculty, staff, students, alumni and our community to further advance our collegiate profile, reputation and regional impact. The College of Business offers outstanding undergraduate, graduate and certificate programs in a variety of delivery modalities, including face- to-face, hybrid, and fully online. The College of Business provides an excellent educational experience at reasonable cost that launches our students into terrific careers, as demonstrated by our AACSB accreditation, nineteen years of being included in the “Best in the Midwest” by Princeton Review and inclusion of EMU in U.S. News and World Report’s top 100 institutions for social mobility.
We will continue to advance EMU and COB’s regional and national recognition. We have recently launched market-driven, innovative new undergraduate and graduate programs and certificates that meet students’ career goals, such as the Executive Master’s in Business Administration, the Master’s of Science in Innovation and Strategy, the Master of Science in Financial Analytics, and the new Bachelor in Business Administration in Financial Planning and Management. Reach out to an advisor today!
As part of these efforts, we are also excited to announce planning is underway to move the college to a beautiful new home in a renovated Pierce Hall by Fall of 2027. More information will be forthcoming as this work progresses.
High engagement, high impact practices are vital to a transformational educational experience for students. We partner with the campus and regional business communities to enhance the student academic experience by increasing high impact practices such as undergraduate research experiences, competitions, and community/company projects embedded both inside and outside of classroom experiences. Notably, the College of Business and Management at EMU has the #1 top ranked student chapter for Human Resource Management!
As we engage with internal and external stakeholders and community leaders to advance outreach, build relationships with the business community, and partner on multiple initiatives, I share my passion for Eastern Michigan’s University’s College of Business and the transformational effects of higher education for individuals, communities and our region. We strive to continually enhance the overall learning experience and career success for our students.
Like you, I am very proud to be an Eagle! We invite you to soar with us.
