Eastern Michigan University's College of Business enjoys continuing accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International), the premier accrediting agency for professional business education at the collegiate level worldwide. The College’s undergraduate and graduate programs achieved accreditation initially in 1974 and 1982, respectively.

Princeton Review "Best Business School"
Eastern's College of Business was ranked among the nation's top graduate business schools by Princeton Review for the 16th consecutive year in its 2020 edition of "Best Business Schools." Student surveys play a key role in the Princeton Review selection, and the strengths they cited included "convenient location," "exceptional" and "experienced" faculty, "low tuition," "great return on investment," "flexible format," "dynamic classroom environment" providing a "great atmosphere of learning," "diverse student body," and "specializations in a variety of business fields."
Intelligent conferred prestigious national rankings for 2020 on both Eastern’s online certificate in Human Resources and its Master of Science in Human Resources and Organizational Development program. Based on its assessment of the programs’ course strength, flexibility, cost, faculty, and reputation, Intelligent ranked the HR Certificate program as number 10 in the nation (with specific commendation for its programmatic accreditation) and the MSHROD program as number 37 (with the added designation of having the best student organization).
Entrepreneur & The Princeton Review
Eastern Michigan University’s graduate program in Entrepreneurship was ranked among the top 50 programs in the nation for 2021 by The Princeton Review and Entrepreneur magazine. This elite distinction is based on robust experiential learning and outstanding faculty, networking, and mentoring.
The prestigious annual LEAD Awards recognize the corporate educational, corporate, and government programs in human resources, leadership, and organizational development that are deemed to be among the top ten in the nation. In 2018, the Eastern earned the following accolades:LEAD Awards 2018

AffordableColleges.com ranked Eastern’s graduate certificate in human resource management No. 9 in the nation, highlighting its “effective application of human resource practices and strategies” and praising the curriculum for preparing “entry-level HRM practitioners to excel in the field, while also qualifying experienced professionals to step into managerial roles.”
Eastern’s online certificate in Human Resources was selected as one of the nation’s top 25 such programs in 2019 by BestColleges.com, based on academic quality, affordability, online competency, and a focus on student success. By imbuing students with the skills and knowledge needed to help organizations plan for and achieve operational effectiveness, the certificate helps workers in entry-level, professional, and technical roles transition into human-resource management roles, the website notes.
Value Colleges 2017
In 2017, Value Colleges named the College’s Master of Science in Taxation program No. 25 in its Top 50 Best Value Master’s in Taxation rankings, noting that it “prepared future tax professionals for the technical and managerial demands of modern taxation, from ethical and legal considerations to the complexities of regulation and the tax code” and that “EMU’s tuition rate makes it one of the most affordable programs of its kind in the Midwest, giving graduates a golden opportunity to build a rewarding career.”
Grad School Hub 2020
Grad School Hub ranked Eastern’s Master of Science in Taxation program No. 18 in the nation, observing that it “emphasizes tax compliance, policy, and planning, while also incorporating an understanding of technological advancements as they apply to tax practice, as well as ethical and legal standards in taxation.” Grad School Hub derives it rankings from an analysis of alumni feedback, continued enrollment, degree selectivity, graduate expenses, and projected annual salary.
Online Global Business MBA 2019-20
Online MBA Page named Eastern’s MBA International Business Specialization one of only 23 Top Online MBAs in Global Business with Specialty Accreditation in the United States (the only one in Michigan) in 2019-20. Citing the program’s emphasis on “communication, ethics, and analytical and critical thinking skills,” Online MBA Page observed that the specialization “will give you a boost in all sorts of industries, from automotive to retail to technology.”
U.S. News & World Report 2020
Eastern’s Master of Science in Integrated Marketing Communications program rose in U.S. News & World Report’s ranking of Best Online Graduate Business Programs (Excluding MBA), coming in at No. 53 in the nation. Noting that “this award winning program is taught by distinguished faculty experts and all courses are project-based and heavily applied in nature,” U.S. News & World Report credited it with bringing together “branding, messaging and media for the most progressive and innovative marketing strategies” and pointed to graduates’ career outcomes “across the globe as consultants, executives, directors, managers, and entrepreneurs.”
The College’s Master of Business Administration program has been named among the nation's "Best Graduate Schools" by U.S. News & World Report in its 2020 ranking of part-time MBA programs. Eastern is ranked 168th nationally and among the top six programs in the state of Michigan. The prestigious national listing, regarded as the gold standard of such comparative recognition, is based on quality evaluations provided by peer institutions and the organizations recruiting its students, along with job placement success and student selectivity.
Sales Education Foundation 2019
Eastern has been named a "Top Sales University" for professional sales education by the Sales Education Foundation (SEF) in its Sales Education Annual 2019. The criteria the SEF cited in granting the College this prestigious designation include its sales faculty, placement rates of graduates, and the Sales Lab.
CFA Institute University Affiliation
As of 2019, the Finance program offered by the College of Business enjoys affiliation with the CFA Institute, a distinction that brings tangible benefits to students aspiring to professional certification as Chartered Financial Analysts.
Eastern was among the first institutions of higher education in the United States (and the first in Michigan) to grant students the valued certification provided through the Microsoft Dynamics Student Certificate Program.
SAP University Alliances
The COB’s longstanding association with SAP, the world’s largest business software company, as a member of that organization’s University Alliances program, brings state-of-the-art education in enterprise resource planning (ERP) to Eastern students, “building the talent of the future for the intelligent enterprise” by developing proficiency in the configuration, utilization, and application of ERP software across a wide range of business functions.
The Best Master's Degrees 2018
The MBA specialization in Entrepreneurship was number 6 in the "10 Most Affordable Top Ranked Entrepreneurship" programs by The Best Master's Degrees in 2018. In conferring the ranking, the organization credited Eastern's "affordable in-state tuition and fees," its "national rankings," and its "rigorous academics and accreditation."
The Eastern Michigan University MBA was named a “Top Degree,” both nationally and in Michigan, by Abound in 2019. Praising its flexibility, the organization noted that the program, which it called “ideal for the working professional,” prepares students “to be thoughtful, resilient, and powerful leaders in an ever-changing global market.” It further praised the “wealth of industry expertise and experience” that faculty bring to the classroom and noted that “from evening advising and faculty office hours to graduate assistantships and career services, students have the guidance they need to prepare for a successful future.”
Nationally Ranked Student Organizations
Eastern Michigan University chapters of student organizations consistently rank among the best in the state of Michigan and the nation:
- The national APICS organization conferred a Platinum Award on Eastern’s chapter in recognition of 19 successive Gold Awards.
- Eastern’s chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, the international honor organization for financial-information students and professionals, has earned “superior” status for 19 successive years.
- A student team from Eastern's newly formed Collegiate DECA chapter won the title of international champions in the Financial Statement Analysis category of that organization's competition in its 2019 International Career Development Conference.
- A student team from Eastern's MBA Student Organization won third prize in the 24th Annual MBA Exclusive Conference national case competition, hosted by Howard University in 2019.
- Students from Eastern’s chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) walked off with the top prize in the 2019 Michigan Council SHRM Game Competition.
Online College Plan 2019
In November 2019, Online College Plan announced its Best 30 Online MBA – Management Degree Programs, with the value, quality, and ROI of its various Management specializations (specifically cited were Hotel & Restaurant Management, Human Resource Management, International Business, Marketing, Nonprofit Management, Sports Management, and Supply Chain Management) leading to its ranking of number 10 in the nation; the ranking praises the program’s affordability combined with a “20-year average ROI of $240,000,” the high scores its students achieve on ETS Major Field Tests in accounting, finance, management, marketing, and strategic integration, and its emphasis on “global thinking, leadership, communication, ethics, and critical thinking skills.”
