Undergraduate Scholarships

The College of Business and the individual departments in the College have endowed scholarships that are available to students meeting specific criteria. Applications will be accepted beginning the 3rd week of November. In addition to the application everyone will be required to submit a resume and recommendation letter. Some of the other scholarships require additional statements.

  • The James H. Hays '85 Scholarship in Business

    • $2,000 scholarship to currently enrolled full-time 
    • Must have worked an average of 16+ hours per week for the last 12 months and is still employed as evidenced by a letter from employer.
    • Sophomore or Junior standing with at least 24 cr hours earned at EMU in the last 12 months (recent transfers to EMU do not qualify).
    • 2.5 or higher GPA
    • No previous bachelor degree or higher degree
    • Independent filing status on income tax returns to be documented by award recipient's tax filing
    • Must be a Michigan resident.
  • The Glen Katlein Scholarship in Business

    • Freshman with a 3.5 or higher High School GPA
    • Financial need
  • Ruthanne Kelly Memorial College of Business Endowed Scholarship

    • Outstanding COB student
  • David Michael Lebowski Endowed Scholarship

    • Freshperson, Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Transfer Student
    • Minimum 2.0 GPA
    • Resident of Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw, or Wayne County
    • A statement of 250 words or less regarding how the scholarship would provide special opportunity you wouldn't normally have.
  • Ralph Lorenz Endowed Scholarship

    • Junior or senior COB major
    • Must be holding a part-time job
    • Minimum 2.0 GPA
    • Financial need
  • Ralph and Mabel Dana Lorenz Endowed Scholarship

    • COB major
    • Exhibits a strong work ethic and sense of self-responsibility by completing one semester of student food service work prior to receiving this award
  • Neu Scholarship Endowment

    • Undergraduate COB admitted student
    • Graduate of Salem High School, Canton Michigan
  • Dr. Russell Ogden Expendable Scholarship Fund

    • Junior or senior, full-time, COB student
    • Minimum 2.5 GPA
    • Graduate of a Michigan high school
    • Record of service to the University
    • Record of participation in extra-curricular activities

  • James and Helene Reader College of Business Endowed Scholarship

    • Junior or senior COB major

    • Junior or senior COB major

    • 1-2 page essay on how they plan to use degree to improve the State of Michigan economy
  • Paul Jr. and Evelyn Tucker Endowed Scholarship

    • Junior or senior COB major
    • U.S. born citizen
    • Full-time student
    • Experience living and working in diverse environments
    • Minimum 2.75 GPA
    • Record of having overcome substantial educational or economic obstacles
    • Verifiable proof of demonstrated experience with or commitment to, serving or working with historically under-served or underprivileged
  • Abigail and John Tuttle Endowed Scholarship

    • Full-time, COB junior or senior
    • Exhibits commitment to community involvement/public service
  • Laura Demetry White

    • Full-time, junior or senior COB, COE or psychology major
    • Minimum 3.0 GPA

    Apply through the COB but the Office of Financial Aid makes the award.

  • The EZ Run Scholarship in Business

    • Prepare a minimum 500 word essay, illustrating an ambitious personality and plans for the future
    • Have a GPA of at least 3.0 
  • The Keith E. Mantis Road to Completion Scholarship

    • Student in good academic standing in the College of Business.
    • Must be a senior student finishing the last approximately 30 credits to complete their degree, this scholarship is intended to provide the last needed tuition funding leading to graduation.
    • Must demonstrate financial need.
    • Shall be awarded to one student.    
  • John R. Eder Scholarship

    • Major:  Business or Economics
    • GPA:  3.0 or higher
    • Geographic Preference: Outside the State of Michigan 
    • Citizenship:  US
  • Bruce T. Halle Endowed Scholarship

    • A student with good academic standing enrolled in the College of Business. 
    • A student with financial need determined by the Office of Financial Aid. 
    • A student who demonstrates leadership and drive by participating in extracurricular activities. 
    • Student applicants must write a 1-2 page essay describing their goals and how it relates to loyalty, commitment to community and customers.
  • John Ross Internship Opportunity Award

    • This fund will make four awards during academic year '20 and summer '20. Each award will be for $2,500 and is exclusively for the use of students pursuing unpaid internships.
    • The internship experience must give students the chance to gain knowledge relative to their major and their eventual career goals. 
    • The funds will be paid over the course of the internship similar to method by which a student worker is paid.
    • To apply for one of these awards:
      •  Write a 250 word essay describing how this particular internship will help you be better prepared for your future career.
      •  Provide a letter from the potential employer stating that they have offered you an internship, the dates of the internship and the tasks they will have you perform that will increase your professional development. (A job description is a good way to complete this last point but text within the employer’s letter is acceptable as well.)
    •  Provide these application materials two weeks or more before the start of the internship. These awards will be made on a competitive basis. 
  • Alfred F. Lobbestael Business Administration Endowed Scholarship

    • At least sophomore status, may be full or part-time graduate student
    • Exhibits a strong interest in business administration
    • Minimum 3.0 GPA
    • Financial need
  • James Barnes Presidential Endowed Scholarship

    • Freshman (0–24 credits)
    • Interested in majoring in business
    • Minimum 3.0 high school GPA
