As a supplement to our in-person Orientation programs (SOAR and EMU Connect), students will complete a series of online modules to learn information about Housing, EMU Dining, Academics, and Financial Aid, among other resources. Students are able to complete these modules at their own pace, and can reassess the information at any time.
Modules should be completed at three different times: pre-SOAR, post-SOAR, and pre-EMU Connect. Completing them this way will allow information to be available just in time, instead of all at once.
Pre-SOAR modules: Welcome, Paying for College, Academics, Student Life
Post-SOAR modules: Safety and Wellness, Next Steps
Pre-EMU Connect modules: EMU Connect (not available until July)
NOTE: Students will need their NetID and password to log in to the Online Orientation. Please be sure to have registered for an advising appointment by completing the EMU Enrollment form BEFORE logging in to your online orientation. Once you have registered it is mandatory to complete the Online Orientation prior to attending your SOAR day.
Student Orientation Advising & Registration (SOAR) is our series of one-day programs for incoming students to meet their advisor and register for their first semester of classes. Attending SOAR is mandatory for all new first year students. SOAR days will run from March 2023 through August 2023.
SOAR days consist of a Resource Fair, group time led by current EMU students, academic advising, and course registration.
Prior to attending SOAR, students should complete:
EMU Connect is the mandatory Step 2 of the Orientation process. It is an exciting weekend of events and activities prior to the start of classes on August 25, 26, & 27, 2023. EMU Connect will provide students with opportunities to form relationships and connections with peer mentors, other students in the incoming class, and the campus community.
For an example of events that take place at EMU Connect, view a PDF of the 2022 EMU Connect schedule here. The EMU Connect 2023 schedule will be available in summer 2023.
You'll receive more information about EMU Connect via your student email (@emich.edu). You can also download the official EMU smartphone app, the EMU Engage App, and check out the Orientation tile for more details.
