EMU Orientation

Like Fast Track, EMU Orientation will remain mandatory for all first-year students. This event (virtual or in-person) will include a meeting with an advisor from their academic college, small group time led by a peer mentor, presentations from Financial Aid and Student Business Services and more.

Changes include rearranging the format of morning presentations to better align with the virtual orientation platform. This platform will allow students to work through the orientation process on their own time, using their time on campus to sign up for classes and meet their advisors. The primary change of EMU Orientation is to better utilize technology to complement the content shared with the student in their in-person or virtual meetings.

EMU Orientation is how a new student commits to attending Eastern Michigan University. The program runs from March through August.

EMU Connect

Like First Three, EMU Connect will be a weekend of programming prior to the start of classes in late August/early September. EMU Connect will encourage students to form relationships and connections with peer mentors, as well as other students in the incoming class. Programs like PlayFair, First Year Mixer and the Black and Brown Student Experience will remain important staples of this program.

Additionally, we will be adopting new programs, such as a Wellness Fair, Student Success at EMU, and several keynote speakers. Themes of inclusion and holistic wellness will be weaved throughout all programs.

This year, EMU Connect will begin on Friday August 27, 2021. You'll receive more information about EMU Connect to your student email (@emich.edu) in the coming weeks and months.

Welcome to EMU Message from President James Smith.
