UWC for Graduate Students
Each week, current EMU graduate students and faculty, as well as recent alumni of graduate-level programs can submit ONE request for writing support through the UWCGS Writing Support Request form. This form allows the student to choose one of two types of writing support to best fit their needs that week:
You must be logged into only your emich email to schedule a consultation. If you get an error, try signing out of any other email accounts and trying again.
Synchronous: M-F, Jan 13 - Apr 22
Asynchronous: Jan 13 - Apr 22
UWCGS will reopen for the summer semester on May 5.
We set up a one-hour Google Meet appointment to talk through your questions "face-to-face." Make your request at least 24 hours before you need an appointment.
You upload a document; we place comments in the margin of the document and send it back to you. Because this option does not involve face-to-face interaction, it may not be the best choice if you have a lot of questions. Turnaround time for asynchronous commenting is 2 days for each 10 double-spaced pages you send. Hence, you can expect feedback according to the following:
- in 2 days for documents 1 - 10 double-spaced pages long
- in 4 days for documents 11 - 20 double-spaced pages long
- in 6 days for documents 21 - 30 double-spaced pages long
And so on. It is best that particularly long documents, such as a thesis or dissertation, be sent one chapter at a time.
Regardless of the option you choose, graduate students are limited to ONE request each week. The purpose of this policy is to allow us to help as many grad students as possible. Students with a letter of accommodation from the DRC should inform their consultant of their accommodations so that appropriate adjustments can be made to best meet the individual needs of each student.
