Office of Campus and Community Writing Launches Partnership with Ypsilanti Library

Ready to write? A new community writing center, YpsiWrites!, is here to support, celebrate, and empower, all types of writing!

YpsiWrites is the culmination of decades of teaching and research by Dr. Ann Blakeslee, director of the Office of Campus and Community Writing (C2W), and Dr. Cathy Fleischer, English department faculty member. After learning about Saginaw Valley’s community writing center, the two began developing a similar initiative for the Ypsilanti community.

Both Blakeslee and Fleischer have always prioritized outreach through their C2W initiatives, and they felt that extending their outreach to the local community was a natural progression for the office. They partnered with the Ypsilanti District Library (YDL) and 826michigan to develop a writing center that would truly serve the community.

After years of surveys, conversations, planning, and training, YpsiWrites is now serving the community at all three YDL branches. Drop-in hours have started at the branches and a grand opening will take place at all three branches on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
