Who's my parent when I fill out my FAFSA?

Dependent students must report their parents’ information, as well as their own, on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form. Find out who counts as your parent [PDF] when you file your FAFSA form. More information can be found on the Student Aid website.

Do you have outstanding requirements?

You can check via your my.emich account by following these steps:

  1. Log into
  2. Click on the Student tab
  3. Choose the Financial Aid tab
  4. Click the Eligibility link
  5. Select Fall 2019–Summer 2020
  6. View Student Requirements
  7. Submit any that list a status of "not yet received"

Processing Times

As of August 3, 2020, we are currently processing documents received on the dates below:

  • Entrance/Exit Counseling: August 3
  • Documents: July 23
  • Grad PLUS Approval: July 20
  • PLUS Loan Approval: July 20
  • PLUS Denial Adjustments: July 20
  • Private Loan Certification: July 21
  • Verification: July 27
  • Email responses: 3-5 business days
