Concurrent Enrollment
What is Concurrent Enrollment?
Concurrent Enrollment allows students in active F-1 status to take classes at another SEVP-certified college or university while maintaining at least 50% of their enrollment at EMU. Students must continue to maintain their immigration status while concurrently enrolled at another institution.
Eligibility
- Maintain at least 50% of your enrollment at EMU
- Undergraduate= 6 credits
- Graduate= 4 Credits
- Only allowed one online class per full-time course load between EMU and the guest institution
- Undergraduate= Minimum 9 credits of in-person classes
- Graduate= Minimum 5 credits of in-person classes
Documents Required to Apply for Concurrent Enrollment
- Fill out and submit the Concurrent Enrollment Form
- Submit the appropriate advisor form
- Undergraduate= Concurrent Enrollment Advisor Form
- Graduate= MIGS Application Form
- Guest Student Letter from guest school if OISS must fill out, if applicable
- Class Schedule for the guest institution showing modality of courses (online/in-person)*
*If you cannot register for classes until OISS signs a guest letter for your guest institution, you will need to bring the letter into our walk-in hours to have an advisor sign it
After the concurrent enrollment request has been approved, you will be required to submit the final transcript at the end of the semester. Failure to submit the transcripts or if you fall below full-time enrollment between EMU and the guest institution you will not be considered to be maintaining your immigration status, and your F-1 record could be potentially terminated.
If you plan to enroll full-time at another SEVP-certified institution, you will need to request a transfer-out for OISS to transfer your F-1 records to your new institution. Your new school will then be responsible for providing you with a new I-20 for your enrollment at that institution, as well as reporting to SEVP regarding your F-1 records.
