Ph.D. Low Enrollment
Ph.D. students who have completed all of their required coursework, are currently working on their Dissertation, Internship, or Practicum, and are under-enrolled, will need to submit the Ph.D. Low Enrollment Form to OISS. This is only permissible when the university considers the Ph.D. student to be full-time enrolled despite being enrolled in fewer credits. Therefore, OISS will need evidence that EMU Records and registration has approved the Ph.D. student for low enrollment.
Students will first work with Records and Registration to process and approve the Doctoral Student Low Enrollment Form.
Once a student has the completed Doctoral Student Low Enrollment Form with approval from Records and Registration notated, they can fill out and submit the Ph.D. Low Enrollment Form.
In-Person Course Requirements
Per immigration regulations, all students under F-1 status must continue to maintain in-person coursework requirements, even during their dissertation research, practicum, or internship. By definition, this means that there must be an in-person component to your coursework. If your class is labeled as online in Banner, you will be required to fill out the In-Person Verification Form and submit it along with your request to our digital form.
Graduate students only. Undergraduate students are not eligible.
Important: Students must meet with their professors in person and on campus, meeting virtually will not satisfy the requirements. Failure to meet in person can result in the termination of your F-1 status for failure to maintain proper enrollment requirements.
