Congratulations on your admission to Eastern Michigan University! This is an exciting time, and we want to make sure you have all the information you need to make your best decision. The information will below will help you as you navigate the enrollment process.

Admitted First Year Student Checklist

Reference this checklist to determine your next steps and to guide your enrollment at Eastern Michigan University.

  •  Winter 2022 (January 2022)

     Step 1. Activate your my.emich student account. 
    • To activate your my.emich student account, you will need both your NetID and your EID. You can find these on the official admit packet that you received. If you do not have them, reach out to the Office of Admissions at 734.487.6453 or [email protected].
    • When you activate your NetID account and set up your password, you will have access to your @emich.edu email account.
    • In the interest of keeping your private information private, EMU requires all students to participate in a 2-factor login system called DUO Security. After you activate your account, the first time you log in, you will be prompted to enroll in DUO. Please see this "Helpful Tips" sheet if you have any issues or questions.
    • If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact our IT Help Desk at 734.487.2120.
    Step 2. Schedule an academic advising appointment and register for classes.
    • Advising is done by the college that houses your intended major. Find contact information for EMU's advising offices.
    Step 3. Submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) 
    • File your FAFSA using EMU’s code (002259)
    • The FAFAS opens for the 2021-2022 school year beginning October 1, 2021. If you would like to receive aid for the Winter 2022 semester, you will need to file the 2020-2021 FAFSA as soon as possible.
    Step 4. Contact Housing & Residence Life in you'd like live on campus. 
    Step 5. Send us your official final high school transcripts. 

    Final transcripts can be received from your high school:

    • Electronically: via sites such as Parchment or Naviance.
    • Via Email to [email protected]
    • By Mail: PO Box 921, Ypsilanti, MI 48197

Students enrolling for the Summer 2022 (May 2022) or Fall 2022 semester (August 2022) please follow the steps below.

  • Visit campus or meet with an admissions advisor

    • We have many visit options available for students including daily tours offered Monday through Friday and select Saturdays, virtual visits, open houses, and more!

  • File the FAFSA using EMU's school code

    • The FAFSA will be available beginning October 1.
    • If you have been notified by Financial Aid that you have been selected for verification, submit the requested documentation as soon as possible.
  • Tell us "I Choose E"!

    Future Eagle, welcome home! If you're excited to get started with your next steps, tell us "I Choose E"! Prior to January, you will use this form to let us know that you intend to enroll at EMU. This is not a binding contract and no deposit is required to finish this step.

    However, by choosing E, we'll know to send you important information about registering for classes, orientation, housing, and much more. Also, as a bonus, students who "Choose E" will receive priority access to orientation/advising dates when they become available in January!

  • Fill Out the EMU Enrollment Form to register for EMU Orientation

    The EMU Enrollment Form tell us that you intend on enrolling at EMU, verifies your information, registers you for an academic advising session, and register you for EMU Orientation programs. 

    This form will be available in mid-January and is required for all first-year students to complete. 

    Students planning to start classes in the Summer of 2022: 
    You must schedule and attend an advising appointment before on April 22, 2022 to register for Summer classes. If you have any questions about rescheduling an appointment, please contact [email protected].
  • Download the EMU Engage App!

    • The EMU Engage App lets you connect with your future classmates and fellow incoming students. It's a great way to stay up to date on campus announcements, get answers to your questions, and learn more about EMU! You'll also find orientation schedules and calendars, tutoring and academic coaching, and access to your Eagle Rewards points. 
    • Download and install the EMU Engage app, available on Android devicesand Apple devices. You must activate your my.emich student account to access the app once installed on your device. 
  • Complete your Online Orientation Module

    • You will receive details about you online orientation module when you submit your EMU Enrollment Form. 
    • You must complete your Online Orientation module before you attend you EMU Orientation date as it contains critical information to make your enrollment at EMU successful.
    • You will log in with you my.emich credentials (your NetID and the password you created).
  • Attend EMU Orientation

    • When you complete your EMU Enrollment Form you will select an EMU Orientation date.
    • At EMU Orientation you will will meet with an academic advisor to register for classes. 
    • EMU Orientation is required for all first year students to enroll at Eastern Michigan University.

  • Apply for Housing

    • The housing application for first year students typically opens in May! We'll send you an email when it's available, and you can check back here for updates!
  • Send us your official high school transcripts

    • Remember to send official college transcripts for dual enrollment credit as well as AP or IB test scores
    • Note that financial aid cannot be disbursed until we receive this final transcript.
